Interview with a Witch

Teachers’ instructions

1. Show the students the sheet with pictures and get them to interview you. Elicit the questions if possible or just tell them:

What’s your name? Willy the Wizard or Wanda the Witch etc

What’s your job?I’m a witch/wizard /vampire/ghost

Where do you live?In a castle

Who is your best friend? Fred the vampire

Have you got a pet?Yes, a dragon

Where do you go to school? …… wizards school etc

How do you go to school?By broomstick or flying carpet

What is your favourite spell? How to turn a naughty child into a

worm

What are the ingredients? 1 worm, 2 bats and the eye of a frog

What do you do every day? I get up, , I have a shower, I get dressed, I have breakfast, I go to school etc

2. Now drill the questions until the students are confident with them. Eliminate any as necessary.

3. Give out the sheet and get students to think of their own answers to the questions.

4. They now interview each other. Get them to repeat with other students. Each time they will get more confident and fluent.

5. For students who can read you can start with the written dialogue. They can read in pairs, the swap roles. Then one read the questions and their partner tries to answer without looking at the sheet etc.

Dumbledore:What’s your name?

Witch:My name is Greta the Good.

Dumbledore:What’s your job?

Witch:I’m a witch.

Dumbledore:Where do you live?

Witch:I live in a castle in the haunted forest.

Dumbledore:Do you have any pets?

Witch:Yes, I do. I’ve got a pet bat and a pet dragon.

Dumbledore:Who are your best friends?

Witch:My best friends are Zog the Vampire and Zippi the ghost.

Dumbledore:Where do you go to school?

Witch:I go to Wimberlyboo Witches School.

Dumbledore:How do you go to school?

Witch:I go by broomstick.

Dumbledore:What is your favourite magic spell?

Witch:My favourite magic spell is “How to turn a teacher into a pumpkin”.

Dumbledore:What are the ingredients?

Witch:1 eye of a frog, 2 worms and 3 black bats.

Dumbledore: What do you do every day?

Witch:Everyday I get up, I have a shower, I get dressed, I have frog cornflakes for breakfast. Then I go to school by broomstick. At school I do some magic. After school I play with my friends.
