The Second international D. Shostakovich competition of chamber ensembles.

Rules of the Competition

The competition will be held in Moscow on the base of Moscow State Musical Pedagogical Institute named after M.M.Ippolitov-Ivanov.

October 4 – 10, 2010

The Competition is open to young musicians up to 30 years old. All contestants are divided into two age groups:

  • junior: ages 14 -20
  • senior: ages 21-30

Contestant's age is stated as of October 4th, 2010.

In Junior group take part

  • Piano duets
  • Trio (piano, violin, violoncello)

In Senior group take part

  • Duets (violin-piano, alto-piano, violoncello-piano)
  • Trio (piano, violin, violoncello)
  • Quintet(piano, two violins, alto, violoncello)

The competitive perfomansis will be publicly held, from October, 4 till October, 10th, 2010, in The Great Hall of the State Musical Pedagogical Institute named after M.M.Ippolitov-Ivanov.(Marksistskaya str, No36, Moscow,109147,Russia).

The competition will consistof two rounds. The order of the competition is defined by a toss-up and will be kept till the end of the Competition.

The Jury of the Competition

The famous musicians are invited to the Jury of the Competition.

The chairman of Jury:

Galina Shirinskaja – Honored Artist of Russia, professor of Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory

The Jury has rights to:

•Not to award all prizes

•Share prizes

•Share special prizes for the best performance of the program of pieces of D.D.Shostakovich.

and also prizes and diplomas for perform of personal musical pieces of D.D.Shostakovich

•The best pedagogical work

Final awards of the Competition must perform free of charge in a final concert.

Junior group

First Round(at most 20 minutes)

1.Composition for the ensemble(or its parts)of the 18— 19 century composers

2.Composition for the ensemble(or its parts) of the 20— 21 century composers

Only original compositions are included.

One of the compositions represented by piano duets, can be composed for the piano for four hands.

Second Round

  1. Shostakovich. Concertino ор. 94 (piano duets).
  2. Shostakovich. Piano trio ор. 8 (piano trio).

Senior group

First Round(at most 30 minutes)

1.Composition for the ensemble(or its parts)of the 18— 19 century composers

2.Composition for theensemble(or its parts) of the 20— 21 century composers

Second Round

  1. Shostakovich. Sonata ор. 134 (for duets for violin — piano).
  2. Shostakovich. Sonata ор. 147 (for duets alto — piano).
  3. Shostakovich. Sonata ор. 40 (for duets violoncello — piano).
  4. Shostakovich. A trio ор. 67 (for piano trio).
  5. Shostakovich. A quintet ор. 57 (for piano quintets)

Following documents to be enclosed:

1. Copy of birth certificate(passport)

2. Short biographyincluding educational institution, professor's surname and name, participation in Competitions

3. Copies of diplomas and degrees certifying of the applicant`s musical education

4. Two colour photos of ensemble, size 9 x 12cm

Each contestant must pay application fee of 4000 rbl.

Money is brought in day of registration of contestant s to the Competition Organizing Committee. In case the contestant refrains from the Competition, his documents and the admission fee will not be returned back to him.
