LDV electrifies THE G10

Rising commercial vehicle maker, LDV, has taken the wraps off the e-G10, an all-electric version of the benchmark value for money seven seat LDV G10 people mover already on sale in Australia.

Making its debut at the Guangzhou International Motor Show (18 November 2016), the e-G10 is no motor show concept car, but a production car that is the latest fruit of a $3 billion investment by LDV’s parent company SAIC in electric vehicles. This has already seen electric versions of LDV’s V80 vans which are on sale in China and Europe. LDV’s expanding electric power family is supported 50,000 charging points across China and it is part of SAIC’s commitment to reach annual sales of electric vehicles of 600,000 cars and commercial vehicles by 2020.

The LDV e-G10’s electric motor produces 75 kW and 380 Nm of torque with the ability to lift these figures to 150 kW and 800 Nm under acceleration. This provides the LDV e-G10 with a top speed of 150 kmh and a 0-50 kmh time of just 4.5 seconds, accelerating on to 100 kmh in under 14 seconds. Charging the e-G10 can take as little as 1.5 hours with a high capacity charging facility and it has a typical use range of 200 km between charges.

Other than its badging the LDV e-G10 looks the same as its petrol-powered sibling, with the only change to the interior is a new instrument pack that removes the rev-counter and replaces it with readouts for battery charge and power consumption.

LDV has already confirmed plans to test market the electric versions of V80 van range in Australia and at the same time it will be examining market interest in a zero emission people mover that could be met by the LDV e-G10.

About LDV

LDV is a division of SAIC (Shanghai Automobile and Industrial Corporation), the largest and oldest automotive manufacturer in China as well as being the largest auto company on China’s share market. A Fortune Global 500 company, holding 60th position in the world’s largest companies on the list, SAIC sold more than 5.9 million vehicles in 2015. It was the first company to enter joint ventures with non-Chinese car makers and has formed joint ventures with Volkswagen, IVECO and General Motors.

SAIC Motor's business covers the research, production and vehicle sales of both passenger cars and commercial vehicles. It also covers components including engines, gearboxes, powertrains, chassis, interior and exterior and miscellaneous electronic components, and logistics, vehicle telematics, second-hand vehicle transactions and auto finance services.

In 2009 SAIC acquired LDV, the light commercial vehicle division born from the Anglo Dutch commercial vehicle company Leyland DAF, a company formed from two of Europe’s leading commercial vehicle companies, Leyland Trucks and DAF Trucks. This purchase included the LDV V80 platform, a new platform developed for production in Europe and Asia. LDV is one of Europe's most recognised commercial vehicle brands. Not only has LDV had sales success as a cargo and passenger van, it has been selected by the British government for use by the Royal Bank, Royal Mail and as travel vehicles for the British Royal family. It is also the recipient of numerous international awards.

The LDV G10 is an entirely new platform based on the combined expertise of both LDV and its parent SAIC.
