Hello and Happy Christmas!!!
As this year draws to a close we’d like to say a huge thank you to alllocal residents who have supported the festival, given us your feedback and contributed to helping us make steps towards becoming an eventfor your community to be proud to have on your doorstep, and hopefully move away from being seen as a source of disruption. We really value the important local knowledge many have shared with us and we look forward to continuing what we’ve started in the past year or so.
Here’s what our final newsletter of the year will cover:
- Christmas Charity CDs
- Minor Variation application
- KidzTown adventures continue
- Next Meeting – 20th January
Annual charity Christmas CD
Every year we produce a Christmas CD and donate all profits directly to charity, in 2013 our festival followers raised £1,320which we donated to Home Start Winchester. Thisyear we have chosen Key Changes, Music Therapy Winchester. With the CDs already having sold out of the first run and a second batch on its way, we hope to be on target to exceed the 2013 total and really help Key Changes continue their incredible work, all through the power of music!
If you would be interested in finding out more about all the other local charities BoomTown supports please see our website for more details:
Minor Variation application
To keep you in the loop, a few days ago we submitted a Minor Variation application to Winchester City Council for us to adjust the capacity of the 2015 event from 45,000 to 49,999. We already hold a licence that will allow us to grow to this number in 2016, but we feel it is necessary for us to have the scope to extend in 2015 purely to be able to accommodate all the coming and going over the weekend of staff, crew, artists, bands, walkabout performers and contractors that it takes to put on an event as complicated and intricate as BoomTown. This increase will not include any public tickets and we are not expecting to reach the full capacity but we simply want to give ourselves a bit of room to manoeuvre.
Although this will not cause any additional impact from how things were this year, we appreciate that some of you will have your concerns over this. Please email th any questions or queries and as always, you are invited to the next community meeting to give us all the opportunity to discuss these matters further – please see below for full details on the next meeting.
KidzTown adventurescontinue…
The lovely folks who run our onsite KidzTown area have confirmed they will be returning to Winchester in May half-term with their family workshops for all ages and abilities. Last year saw the inaugural two-day workshops attract over 100 local families to experience a little slice of BoomTown in the heart of Winchester. Please see the poster below for more details and if you’d like to register your interest simply email one of the wonderful KidzTown representatives at
Next meeting:
The next meeting will take place between 7pm – 8pm on Tuesday 20th January at the Shooting Lodge, Matterley Estate. This meeting will be mainly traffic focussed but we will make time to cover as many issues as possible, especially in light of our recent minor variation application. To ensure that your topic is covered please do send us over your questions beforehand so we can log it on the agenda:
Thank you for taking the time to read all of this and if we don’t hear from you before, we wish you a very merry Christmas and a wonderful new year from all at BoomTown. xx
