This is the first vintage for the new team who took the helm from Robert Crabtree in 2007. Owners Rasa and Richard Woods enlisted the winemaking expertise of the multi-award winning Clare Valley Winemaker, Kerri Thompson who along with Cellar Manager, Brendan Pudney, has produced a Watervale Riesling of striking exceptionality.

The Crabtree Watervale Riesling 2008 is a wine made from the careful blending of individual batches created from 13 separate blocks. The blocks were picked and fermented separately allowing the winemaking team to become familiar with the unique characters and specific flavour profiles of each. The Crabtree Watervale Riesling is the result of the very best of these blocks brought together for perfect finesse, consistency and intense flavour. The wine exhibits the distinct terroir of Crabtree Estate and the Watervale district of the Clare Valley with its classic floral notes, palate of layered citrus and a long, crisp and dry finish.

Winestate's Wine of the Year Awards has long been held in high regard. The 300 wines sampled in the finals were rated highly by Winestate judges during tastings of more than 10,000 wines from Australia and New Zealand over the past year. This year, wines expressing pure regionality were the most prized wines.

"A key vintage strategy going into the 2008 vintage was to pick and ferment separately, all the Crabtree Watervale Estate Riesling blocks. This resulted in 13 separate Riesling ferments providing the team with intimate insights into each blocks flavour profile and unique terrior characteristics.

The 2008 Crabtree Watervale Riesling is made from the finest of these individual block batches. The best free run juices were identified and cold fermented dry. This final wine is a result of carefully blending each small parcel of Riesling together to produce a wine that best expresses the Crabtree Estate and the famous Watervale district of the Clare Valley.

The 2008 Crabtree Watervale Riesling exhibits classic Watervale florals on the nose with a punchy, layered citrus and lime palate, finishing long, crisp and dry. An excellent example of Watervale Riesling from a strong quality vintage. This wine can be enjoyed young and fresh but will benefit from medium term cellaring 6 – 8years." Winery Notes
