Dear Mr. Smith
My name is Leigh Snyder and I am a certified marketing and businesseducation teacher who has a proven track record of engaging students using an innovative curriculum that has contextual learning as its major component. I am writing to you today to express an interest in working at Parkview. In the fall of 2005, I had the pleasure of working with Mrs. Tammy Thomas and Mrs. Meridy Griggs as a University of Georgia student teacher. I am currently substituting in the Parkview cluster; however, I have not had the opportunity of working at Parkview. As you will see from my attached resume, I have a very diverse background which encompasses business as well as education. In June 2010, I lost my job in Walton County due to county budget cuts which necessitated the closing of the career academy and the marketing program. Because of a lack of positions that matched my certification, I was told that my contract would not be renewed. It was very exciting to be part of the career academy concept because of the unique way we presented curriculum. We developed“Learning Focused”lessons with project based teaching strategies that crossed subject lines. We were very instrumental in helping to raise WaltonCounty’s graduation rate.
Not only do I have experience teaching high school and middle school students but my background is far more diverse. Before entering public school education, I had a career with Belk Department Stores where I held positions within management, merchandising, operations, and human resources. Before leaving Belk to pursue my graduate degree in education, I also worked as a corporate trainer who trained many executives within theManagement Training Program. My experiences within business are used as teaching tools within all of my lessons. I find that students can relate to business concepts if you teach using practical applications. Because of my background in business, I believe that I am well suited to teach Career Technical Education.
I have attached a resume which gives a very brief outline of my many skills and qualifications. Because I have a passion for teaching and making a difference in students’ lives, I would like to meet with you in the very near future so that I may articulate to you the reasons why I believe I would be an excellent asset to your team at Parkview. I have an extensive portfolio that represents many of my accomplishments as a career technical educator.
Respectively
Leigh Kitchens Snyder
