A Guardian ad Litem is an attorney appointed by the Court to represent the best interests of your minor child(ren). Because the Guardian ad Litem is an attorney for the minor child(ren), I do not represent you or your interests and cannot provide you with legal counsel. If you have questions regarding legal and procedural issues, you should seek legal counsel.

Because of the constraints placed on the Guardian ad Litem, any information that you would like to present to me should be submitted in writing to the address or fax number listed above. Please feel free to submit in writing all information that you feel is relevant to the Guardian ad Litem’s representation of your minor child(ren)’s best interests. You may also submit letters from individuals who have personal knowledge about the matter before the Court, as long as the letters are signed and include the contact information of the individual writing the letter. I am also enclosing an information sheet and a medical release that I need filled out and sent back to me as soon as possible.

The minor child(ren) are encouraged to contact me with any questions they may have regarding the court proceedings or to address any other concerns. Because of the nature of cases involving a Guardian ad Litem, parents are asked not to discuss the case with their child(ren) and are encouraged not to make disparaging comments about the other parent in front of the child(ren). Parents should allow their child(ren) free access to the Guardian ad Litem, per the Court’s order, and should not use their child(ren) as a means of communicating with the Guardian ad Litem or the other parent.
