Volunteer Program for Use of
Peaceful Valley Shooting Sports Areas
The shooting ranges at Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch may be made available to Boy Scout Troops, Varsity Scout Teams, Explorer Posts, and Venturing Crews upon prior request (minimum 3 weeks) when all BSA standards can be met.
Note: Cub Scouts may only shoot archery and BB Guns at Council or District approved programs.
Cub Scout Packs are not approved to run shooting events. Please contact your District Shooting Sports
Coordinator if you would like to plan an event.
Basic standards are in the BSA Shooting Sports Manual.
Please review all BSA levels 1 thru 5. In the document above. Choose and study the requirements for the level best describing your event. Questions can be simply directed to your Coordinators or Chairman.

We realize that many units will not have proper equipment and properly certified Instructors/ Range Officers required for Scouts to shoot. Please send an email to your District Coordinator outlining your event plan. Emails can be sent directly from
Range reservations are on a 1st Come 1st Served basis. Reservations are handled thru the CAMPING Dept. at Council office. When your unit has a confirmed reservation please contact your District Shooting Sports Coordinator via email. Coordinator or committee person will contact and assist you in planning. Please keep in mind ALL NRA Instructors and RSO’s within DACSS are VOLUNTEERS and are also active in other Scouting roles. We can not always guanantee availability of Instructors & RSOs.
Consider Training to become a NRA or NAA Certified Instructor. Check websites for dates& times.
Camp shooting equipment will be made available to Council approved Instructors for their use in operating the ranges. Council maintenance fees for the range equipment have been calculated into
your range fees and consumables. All guns must be returned CLEANED to QM.
Range Boxes must be returned organized. Please fill out refill list and leave in pouch inside tote.
CLEANING FEE will be charged at a rate of $____.____ for any gun returned uncleaned.
We provide “shared” eye and hearing protection when requested.
However, on a personal level we strongly recommend ALL participants bring their own shatter proof EYE protection and over ear HEARING protection.

Range Safety Officer and the Discipline’s Instructor must be two separate individuals who are BSA, NRA, or NAA Certified* and DAC- SOP Trained for the range operations. DACSS ID badge must be presented to Rangers upon Check-in. Please make sure you have your credentials with you.
