C. Delaney; B. Gugerty, D. DuLong; L. Sorenson; S. Tupper, S. Jacobs, THIS IS AN IMCOMPLETE LIST.

TICC & WG 1

The TIGER Informatics Competencies Collaborative (TICC) has been active in the last two months. Three working groups were formed and met multiple times. Working Group 1 has finished its work and recommended the Knowledge, Skill and Attitude competency framework as well as to consider not only informatics competencies but computer competencies and information literacy as well.

WG and WG 3 Combined

Working Groups 2 and 3 have combined and met on 10/9. Much work has been done with gathering literature reviews, existing relevant competencies and other work by these two groups. There was considerable overlap, thus the combining of the two groups.

The TICC Wiki

If you have not had a chance, visit the TICC wiki at all the work of the working groups is posted there. If you want to contribute to the Wiki, the password is TICC. This password should only be used by TICC members.

Next Steps

Those active in the working groups now have a pretty good understanding of different types of competencies we should consider, leveling issues, what framework we should use (although WG1 recommended KSA, we are still open to other frameworks as we finalize our work) and other relevantissues like interdisciplinary and international scope. What we all agreed to in the 10/9 meeting was the need to get lists of competencies that may be relevant to our mission into one place. That place is thewiki. Go to click onCompetency Lists

A) ALL TICC MEMBERS who have posted to the wiki should review what they have posted to see if there are any lists of competencies buried in those posts. Please strip out the tables of competencies from articles, lists of competencies from documents, etc. and post the raw lists on Competency Lists. Please remember to head the posts to identify who the list is for--i.e. public health professionals-- and cite where it came from. DUE DATE 10/19/07. (This is later than we talked about at the meeting).

ANY TICC MEMBERS can post additional lists of computer, informatics or health literacy competencies that no one else has yet posted that are relevant to nurses, clinicians, etc. Examples from other industries are welcome too.

B) ALL TICC Working Group Members and any other TICC Member who wants to engage are encouraged to review all the competency lists posted and prepare for step C, synthesis.

C) Synthesis. Some brave soul or souls by 10/29/07 will post a synthesis of all relevant lists from the lists of the competency repository that addresses the TICC mission and takes into account the frameworks and other issues we have dialoged about.

D)TICC members will be encouraged tocomment onwhat the synthesizer(s) has/have posted by 11/5.

E) We will meet again during the week of 11/5 to discuss the synthesized list(s). Meeting information to follow.

Thank you.

Regards,

Brian Gugerty
