Title: Contract & Compliance Manager / Reports to: General Manager Vegetation Projects
Business Unit: Compliance Team / Number of direct reports: 1
Location: Canberra (preferred), or Sydney
Primary purpose of this position: / Contract preparation & negotiation, management of carbon farming project registeration and compliance.
Monitor legal risks and provide advice to management team on emergent legal risks to minimise material impacts on operations, revenue forecasts and business reputation.

As one of Australia’s largest and most experienced carbon farming project developers, Climate Friendly helps land owners and land managers to unlock economic, social and environmental value through improved management of Australia’s land.
This includes more than 100 partnerships with farmers, agribusiness and Indigenous groups on carbon farming projects. We have already delivered more than 5 million tonnes of carbon abatement through our Australian carbon farming project portfolio since 2015, worth around $60 million to our landholders based on average market prices.
We have a proven track record, with a large and growing portfolio of land-based projects across a wide range of methods, land types, land tenures, and geographies.
Key outcomes/ accountabilities: / Include but are not limited to:
· Identify and manage all legal and regulatory business risks across Climate Friendly’s carbon farming portfolio, processes and strategic development
· Advise the management team on emergent legal risks, including recommended approaches for managing such risks
· Maintain legal advice and contract register
· Manage strategic contractual negotiations and any emergent legal or contractual issues across the carbon farming project portfolio
· Management of Legal Team to ensure projects are contracted, registered and eligible interest holder consents obtained in an efficient and legally compliant manner
· Legal analysis to inform development of new business opportunities
· Day to day management and advice to Director Risk & Systems on internal governance framework, including drafting, updating and advising on policies, standard operating procxedures, technical guidelines and templates
Selection Criteria -
Knowledge Skills & Experience: / Include but are not limited to:
· Law Degree and current unrestricted legal practicing certificate is highly preferred.
· Previous experience working in environmental law, specifically related to the Emissions Reduction Fund and Carbon Farming Initiative, is highly desirable.
· Strong communication, reporting and advisory skills.
· Experience establishing and managing internal operating procedures to facilitate compliance and efficiencies in systems and processes
· Management experience.
· Expertise in project management and delivering against tight deadlines.
· Ability to solve problems and provide strategic advice to Executive.
· Expertise working with a broad range of stakeholders, including government, auditors and managing a dispersed team.
