TO BEGIN INSTALLATION, CHOOSE FROM THE FOLLOWING OPTIONS:

Option 1 – First Time Mult-User Installation

Use this routine if this is your first installation of 1099 Pro® 1999!

  1. Decide where the shared 1099 Pro data files will be located. Make sure the drive the data resides on is a mapped Windows or Novell drive that all subsequent workstations may access. If you wish you may create this directory prior to installation of the software. Each installation will refer to this directory via the "Database Path Name".
  2. Close all programs. We also recommend disabling any virus checkers.
  3. Insert CD-ROM into CD-ROM drive (or Disk 1 into floppy drive).
  4. In Windows 95/98/NT* click the Start button (located in the lower left corner of the desktop) and Run.
  5. Browse for SETUP.EXE on the appropriate drive. Click "OK" to begin the installation. The Wise Installation Wizard will prompt the user through the installation routine.
  6. When prompted enter your multi user Product ID. Make certain to check the box "Database Admistration & Security".
  7. During the install allow the program files to reside on the local drive e.g. C:\Program Files\1099Pro9\.
  8. Indicate the "Database Path Name" when prompted for the Network Data Path. You may point to a shared/mapped drive/directory or create a unique name for the subdirectory during installation (e.g., F:\DEFCON4\1099DAT9) where 1099DAT9 might be your unique name to identify 1099 Pro data for the year 1999.
  9. IMMEDIATELY click on the 1099 Pro icon after steps 1 - 8 above and you will be prompted for a Password at the screen "Setup Password Options". Checking the "Disable Password Security" box will disable security until re-enabled*. If a Password is entered it will be the System Administrator Password. Make a note of the password in a safe location should you misplace it -passwords are case sensitive!
  10. The System Administrator should then execute the Security program in the 1099 Pro group (Start, Programs, 1099Pro9, Security) and add, delete, change or inactivate users. If you are entering the Security program for the first time you will have to click on “Browse Users”, and then hit the + sign (plus sign). At a minimum enter a first name and then click on the 2nd tab “General Cont’d” and enter a Login Name & Password both of which are case sensitive. Note: If you enabled security, users will not be allowed access until the System Administrator has set up usernames & passwords. The Security program also allows the System Administrator to generate reports with usernames & passwords.
  11. *We strongly recommend NOT disabling "Password Security". When "Password Security" is disabled ANY USER ON ANY WORKSTATION can set the System Administrator Password by clicking on "File", "Preferences", "Password Options" even if "Database Admistration & Security" was not installed on that particular workstation. The potential exists for a user to unwittingly set the System Administrator Password by accident thereby locking out all users!
  12. Install the the software to the various workstations. Check the box "Database Admistration & Security" if you wish to be able to access the Security program from the particular workstation you are installing to. Be sure to allow the program files to install to the local hard drive e.g. c:\program files\1099pro9 and point to the "Database Path Name" for your data files that you set up when you performed the first install above. This way each workstation has the files it commonly uses and only transports the data across the network. That's all there is to it!

Option 3 – Copy Pre-Release Data

All data as well as users entered into the system will be copied from your shared data directory to another new shared data directory in the new dictionary format. Your old Pre-Release data will no longer be accessible when you perform this step. Do not copy .tps files from one version to another!

  1. As a precaution perform a backup of your system before starting.
  2. Plan on a new directory to house your shared data. The directory should be a mapped drive that all users have rights to. For example if your old data was in F:\1099Data your new directory may be in f:\1099Data\1999. Remember – each path name is limited to 8 characters so a name like 1099DataFinal would be unacceptable.
  1. (New directory is: ______)
  1. Close the pre-release & have all users log out of the 1099 Pro software.
  2. Go to a workstation that has the Security Module as you will be able to add/delete/change users of the multi-user system.
  3. Install the final release of 1099 Pro software as noted above. Accept the default setting of all boxes checked which will allow the security module to be installed.
  4. After installation at each workstation is complete, exit 1099 Pro®. DO NOT ENTER ANY INFORMATION - the copy utility will override (i.e., ERASE) all records in the database!
  5. Immediately after the installation go to Windows Explorer and double click on the program Copy99PR.exe to copy data from your old shared directory. Note you may need to ‘point’ to the old directory via the ‘Browse’ button.
  6. Click "OK" to copy data into 1099 Pro® 1999**. A tally displays as data is "copied" into the database. Do not interrupt this process!
  7. Immediately after transfer, click on the new 1099 Pro icon and enter the system. You will be prompted for a new System Administrator Password. You can enter a new password or your old password. This password is case sensitive and will be needed when you invoke the Security Module when adding/changing/deleting users.
  1. (System Administrator Password (case sensitive):______)
  1. Verify that your filers & data came across. A good way to check your forms is to click on ‘Reports’ & ‘Form Counts’.
  2. When complete, the 1099CNV9.INI file will display the status of the pre-release conversion.
