Essential Records – FEMA-sponsored Course - 2011
Do you work with emergency management, business continuity, records, or information technology in state or local government? Would you like to learn more about how you can protect essential information in a free FEMA-sponsored course? • Four 90-minute sessions, held once a week for four weeks
• Includes links to useful resources and assistance in your own state or territory
This 6-hour course will prepare participants to:
• identify an agency’s essential records;
• analyze and prioritize records, assessing specific risks and identifying protection strategies;
• specify time frames for essential records availability in emergencies
• develop procedures to ensure access to and security of essential records;
• outline an essential records plan for inclusion in COOP;
• become familiar with federal, state, and local COOP regulations and procedures.

Audience: State and local government officials involved in emergency management, records management, and information technology.
Technical Requirements: You will need a computer connected to the internet and a telephone. If your desk is in an open work area, you may want to use a private room or a headset so as not to disturb those around you. These courses will be interactive – you will be expected not only to watch but to participate by voice or chat!
Credit: The IPER courses are eligible for credit from FEMA’s Continuity Practitioner Certification Program, the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, and the Local Government Archives and Records Administration Certificate. It should also meet the requirements for CRM maintenance credits. You must take the pre- and post-tests and attend all sessions to receive credit.
