STEVENAGE UNDERWATER PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY

NOTES OF MEETING HELD ON TUESDAY 14th May 2013

The Chairman, Bob Allen was away in sunny Florida, so Dave Collins, the Treasurer welcomed all to the meeting and gave the safety talk.

There were no new members present.

There hasn’t been a committee meeting since the April meeting, so there were no committee notes, the next committee meeting is on Tuesday 18th June, please contact Vicki Major if you wish to attend.

Focus on results

Water was an interesting topic and members seemed to embrace the topic and enjoyed the challenge of interpreting water underwater!

Alison and Paul have just returned from Philippines. While away they were trying to get striking colour on a black background.

They achieved the desired effect by pointing strobes forward and slightly outat about 10 degrees. They showed seven excellent images. Their images were:

  • Oyster- cannon 600D
  • Painted frog fish- cannon 600D
  • Lion fish- monochrome effect- canon 600D
  • Frog fish with mouth open- canon 600D
  • Clown fish in blue anemone 450D canon
  • Pigmy Seahorse- 450D 100mm lens
  • Fish head on-450D

Dave Collins and Dave Baker then gave talks about Photoshop elements and Lightroom showing us how to manipulate images with example photos.

Some very brief notes:

  • Photoshop elements version 11
  • Can use ‘guided’ tab, but more flexibility in ‘Expert’ tab.
  • Click on magic wand and select tolerance of about 35 % outline will be defined.
  • Lightroom
  • Lightroom 4 Beta version is free on Adobe website at the moment.

The next meeting will be on 11th June 2013 at The Arts Centre on Roaring Meg, Stevenage, commencing at 8.00 pm

The photo theme for the Focus On is "Stripes".

5 images will be by Dave Baker.

We will be viewing and selecting images for the 2014 calendar as the main event.
