·  On 13/08/06, Mr. P K Damle (OE, Electrical) observed that 220 V DC supervision LED for 6.6 kV Unit Bus was not glowing. During investigation it was found that 220 V DC for bus PT was lost and the cause was defective ON/OFF switch. The supply was made available. The unavailability of the DC supply would have prevented the change over of auxiliary supply to Unit Bus 5B during unit trip out. Keen and timely observation of Mr. P K Damle was highly appreciated.

·  On 13/08/06, Mr. Ganesh Bagwe, DOT, observed that though ID Fan 5A inlet damper 1 was indicating full open as per its limit switch indication in Control Room, it is only 10% open and its operating link is dislodged. The damper was opened fully manually with MMD's help and the dislodged operating link was restored back. Also on 19.08.06, he observed defect in Motor blower 2of ID fan 6C. The blower number 2 were found defective & subsequently attended by EMD. Keen observation of Mr. Bagwe was appreciated.

·  On 25-08-2006 at 18.10 Hrs. when GTG & STG was carrying 120 MW & 68 MW respectively, GTG control changed over from Load Control to Speed Control and GTG load came down to 5 MW immediately. This was due to momentary loss of CS 275 bus communication due to loading. GTG load was manually picked up from backup panel on speed control & after two attempts GTG load was successfully changed over to load control mode and conditions were stabilized. Delay in the above operation would have lead to GTG tripping on reverse power & STG tripping on low main steam temperature. The effort of M/S K. B. Lad, S. D. Joshi, A. S. Patil & S. S. Deshpande who reacted quickly and saved the unit during peak hours was highly appreciated.

New SAP Servers

Planned replacement of old SAP Servers was effected recently and the same were replaced by new IBM Servers.

The earlier landscape was heterogeneous, comprising of Windows, Tru-64 Unix and HP-Unix. The new Servers have permitted shifting to a uniform Operating system for the entire SAP landscape. The new system has the following advanced features:

·  Permits micro-partitioning of CPUs.

·  Permits dynamic allocation of Server resources like CPU and RAM to the SAP instance.

·  Permits creation of virtual Servers in a single box.

The unstinting efforts of our BASIS team enabled migration of the whole SAP landscape of Test, Development, Quality and Production Servers to the New Landscape. The whole system was then thoroughly tested by the TPC ABAP and Functional team and released for general use from 15th August 2006.

The BASIS team effort was appreciated by SAP-India.

The new Servers will lead to a significant reduction in response time for transaction and reports processing in SAP. Their feature of dynamic resource allocation will permit temporary expansion of SAP production capacity to meet period-ending and annual loads without deterioration of performance. They will also enable us to proceed with the planned upgrade from ‘SAP R/3’ to ‘my SAP ERP 2005’, necessary to meet our Company’s emerging growth challenges.
