Monday, 02/13: Edit to correct grammar/mechanics rules (1.4.8F)
Materials: subordinating conjunction sheet, misplaced modifier sheet and examples
- Record weekly obligations
- Review subordinating conjunctions by writing 3 sentences about your weekend to open discussion with a partner. These sentences should contain at least one dependent clause, one independent clause, and a subordinating conjunction. One sentence has to use a subordinating conjunction at the beginning of the sentence. Check your punctuation.
- Introduce misplaced modifiers; provide example sheet.
- Begin practice sheet
- Assignment:
- Complete misplaced modifier practice sheet
Tuesday, 02/14: Establish connections between historical events and personal experiences. Understand the terms discrimination, prejudice, bigotry, and stereotype (1.2.8 J).
Materials: Background packet and terms list; terms for discussion
- Review answers to misplaced modifiers and upload to google docs for future reference
- Opener for AF unit: access google classroom to find a link to AnswerGarden. Follow the instructions. (minimum of 5 answers)
Wednesday, 02/15: Establish connections between historical events and personal experiences. Understand the terms discrimination, prejudice, bigotry, and stereotype (1.2.8 J).
Materials: Background packet and terms list
- Open with image from AnswerGarden and allow this to guide discussion
- Use the definitions on the screen to talk about the meanings of the words discrimination, prejudice, bigotry, and stereotype. Where have you seen these words used?
- Connect this vocabulary to present day. Talk about specific “groups,” stereotypes, and titles. How do they affect you/us?
- Check knowledge and level of understanding of WWII.
*If Time*
- Distribute background packets and vocabulary sheets. Explain procedure for reading, note taking, and vocabulary.
- Assignment:
- Read and take notes on pages 3-9 in the background packet
- Using the packet, define terms 1-11. Look up any words you cannot define.
- Study for vocab quiz on Thursday, 2/23.
Thursday, 02/16: Establish connections between historical events and personal experiences. Understand the terms discrimination, prejudice, bigotry, and stereotype (1.2.8 J).
Materials: background packet and terms list, “If You Cried, You Died” film
- Discuss pages 3-9 in packet and terms 1-11.
- Watch the video introducing the Holocaust. Discuss.
- Assignment:
- Read pages 10-15 in Background Packet and take notes
- Define terms 12-28
- Study vocabulary! There will be a quiz on these terms Thursday, 2/23.
Friday, 02/17: Establish connections between historical events and personal experiences. Understand the terms discrimination, prejudice, bigotry, and stereotype (1.2.8 J).
Materials: background packet, vocab sheet, Nuremburg laws
- Discussion of pages 10-15
- Check vocabulary definitions 12-28
- If time, begin focus on Nuremberg laws
- Assignment:
- Read pages 16-24 and take notes
- Define terms 29-45
- Study vocabulary! There will be a quiz on these terms Thursday, 2/23.
