Introduction: The J. W. McNeill scholarship was developed to provide deserving young people with financial assistance for their first year of college expenses. Any graduating high school senior who demonstrates Christian character, is actively involved in the ministry of New Breed, and has been accepted to a college or university is eligible to apply for the J. W. McNeill Scholarship.
Award Criteria and Process: The chief executive of J. W. McNeill Ministries will appoint a scholarship committee made up of individuals of his choosing. The committee will assist him in making decisions about the scholarship award:
- Interested applicants must submit applications for the scholarship by August 1st of their graduation year.
- Application forms will be available online or they can be picked up from NewBreedChristianCenter. Application forms will be mailed to interested applicants upon request.
- Applications must be accompanied by two letters of recommendation from non-family members, unofficial high school transcripts, and a two-page, double-spaced essay.
- Applicants must also provide proof that they have been accepted into a college or university.
- The scholarship committee will review all applications and inform applicants of the results by August 15th.
- The following criteria will be used to evaluate all applications:
Christian Character / In what ways has the applicant demonstrated a love for Christ, exhibited the fruit of the spirit, etc.? / 30 pts
Church Involvement / In what ways and for how long has the individual been involved in the ministry of New Breed? / 30 pts
Academic Potential / Does the applicant’s academic record indicate a strong potential to successfully complete a college or university degree? / 20 pts
Community Involvement/ Extracurricular Activities / Has the applicant served others in his/her community? Has he/she been involved in other extracurricular activities (such as clubs or athletics)? / 10 pts
Need / To what extent will the J. W. McNeill Scholarship assist the applicant in meeting his/her college-related expenses? / 10 pts
TOTAL / 100 points
Note:
- Applicants who do not obtain a minimum score of 80 points will automatically be disqualified.
- Applicants who have not been active participants in the ministry of New Breed for at least one year will automatically be disqualified.
- Applicants may only apply once for the scholarship (in their first year of college or university).
- Scholarship recipients will be expected to submit an informal progress report to the church at the end of each of their first two semesters of college.
