PHCC– PooleHarbour Race - 9th Sept 2018
The Poole Harbour race is a challenging event open to all classes of boats from a lovely beach venue on the edge of the harbour. It is a non standard, non ranking race due to the exposed open water conditions and the Le Mans style beach start. Hot food, cakes, drinks are included in the entry price.
Venue Lake Pier, Lake Drive, BH15 4LR. Use satellite view to spot the large waterside car park with a T shaped pier
There is one 15 mile distance for OC6 which circumnavigates Brownsea island plus a leg to Wareham river and involves large stretches of exposed open water. The start will be afloat and crewed with tail on beach.
Safety Notes.
Hazards are numerous, Racing yachts, Jet skiers, Water skiers, mooring lines, buoys and deep soft mud beneath the shallow water so beware if grounding your boat.
The race should skirt the southern edge of the yacht racing area but please take avoiding action if collision with other craft is imminent
Choppy water shouldn't be a problem for OC6 but it is recommended you have footwear for the beach start and have 3* paddling ability.
WHISTLES are strongly recommended to get help from the safety boats patrolling the course
Winds of Force 4 Gusting 5 as seen within the harbour are the race maximum. Updates will be available on the club website or on Facebook.
Check in from 9:30am, 11:00am briefing, 11:30am race starts the beach.

NON-NEGOTIABLE RULES:
1)Buoyancy aids are compulsory for all competitors due to open water:
No buoyancy aid = No start
2)All boats must have sufficient secured buoyancyto be unsinkable and easily emptied by patrol boats. Airbags as well as centre foam pillar is required.
Inadequate buoyancy = No start.
3)All competitors must check back in to race control if you retire. The patrol ribs will not do it for you.
4)If not a PHCC member then either proof of BCU Membership, BCU affiliated club or a £5 insurance day ticket is required.
All competitors must be able to swim at least 100 metres in canoeing clothing, and must wear a buoyancy aid throughout the race. Entries of competitors under 18 must be signed by parent or guardian.
