CHAPTER 100 - ALASKA REGION FACILITY DESIGNS

In addition to Service-wide designs approved for Region 10 in Chapter 200, the following designs are included to meet specific Regional needs. Other designs may be added to this Handbook in the future, after a thorough Regional review for appearance, quality, function, and cost. No nonstandard designs shall be constructed except as noted in Section 02, Responsibilities, and only under unusual circumstances.

Designs included in this chapter are reduced copies of original 24" x 36" construction drawings and are shown for illustration purposes. Full size drawings shall be used for construction.

110 - Facility Design Notes. The following notes are added to show intent, options, and additional qualifications not indicated on the individual design plates.

Outlying Cabin (Design No. 29B). The skylight is optional, used where light is a problem.

Outlying Cabin (29L). Simpson-Strong-Ties or equal may be used in place of the "custom" anchor bracket (shown on sheet 2 of 2).

The A-Frame cabin design shall be used in areas with heavy snowload, such as high country situations or other areas expecting heavy snowloads.

Steel roofing is a preferred option, as indicated in Chapter 300.

Woodshed (50). This design is for outlying cabin use.

Firewood Shelter (15K). For use in campgrounds where firewood is supplied. Not intended for outlying cabin use.

Floatplane Dock (10). For use in unusual situations, where a floatplane cannot access the lake shoreline near a recreation cabin.

Pit Toilet Waste Treatment (20). This is only one of the options the Region is presently working on and is experimental at the time this Handbook was prepared. Contact the RO Recreation Office for additional designs.

Tent and Picnic Platform (80). This design is for low, wet ground situations and is not for normal use.
