Praise Suggestions

God is Able – How often we DON’T feel able to be a great mom when we are oh-so-weary… GREAT reminder that He is able to help us. He’s big enough to do that.

God is Compassionate – Oh we need His compassion each day as mothers, as we stumble through, sometimes victorious and sometimes a wee bit crabby!

God is Creator – Young moms know this. They are fresh from watching life created miraculously in their own bodies. What a celebration it is to praise Him as Creator God.

God is Emmanuel – This means He is “with us” and that’s a comfort and blessing as we make decisions throughout the day.

God is Father – Whether you had a good father or not, whether your children have a father at home or not…God is the good Father who cares well for His children including you, young mama.

God is Friend – That’s an amazing thought. When you feel all alone because every other mom seems to be working or busy and you have three kids who seem to have been sick for three months…what a sweet reminder that He is there and your friend when you are in need.

God is Helper – The Holy Spirit comes to help us. We need His wisdom, guidance and strength each day.

God is Servant – So much of what a mom does is repetitive servant work. We wipe bottoms and clean up spills for a living! God understands servanthood. He served and He didn’t have to as King of kings.

God Rescues – On the days when all we can get out of our mouths is “help!”

God is Shepherd – Just like a good shepherd tends His sheep, God tends to YOU, weary mama, as you tend to your little lambs. Isn’t it nice to know you get to be a “little one” when you are with your Shepherd?

God Sustains – When the toddler is throwing up at 2am, but the baby needs to be fed and your husband is out of town…we need to remember this.

God is Wise – There are so many hard decisions to make when you have little ones. Who should babysit? What food is best? When and how do I discipline? God is all wise and promises to give wisdom when we ask.

Confession

Dear mom, no matter HOW many times you yelled when you meant to be calm, no matter HOW many times you were impatient when you wanted to be patient, no matter HOW often you feel you fail… God forgives. Completely. Utterly. Fully. And you are free from condemnation and accusations from Satan. You are clean, beautiful, and fully restored to try again. And again. This time of silent confession is a wonderful time of releasing guilt and shame because you have brought it to the One who died for you. Just as you eagerly forgive a repentant child, even more so, God waits for you to come to Him and then lovingly forgives and sets you on your feet again.

Thanksgiving

Keep a record of what you prayed and you will be astounded at how many times God says, “Yes.” The baby actually slept 5 hours straight? THIS is the time to rejoice and thank the Lord for that. You were able to enroll your three year old at the preschool that fits him best? Thank God who said “yes” to that prayer of the heart. As you pray during this time of thanksgiving, listen to your friends thank Him and rejoice with them that God is living and active and involved in your lives. He delights in giving good gifts to His children. You will love this time!

Intercession

All the verses on our prayer sheets can be adapted for children of any age, but these are some special ones that “fit” the little ones particularly well.

Scriptures to pray for a pre-born baby growing inside your belly:

For you, Lord, are creating the inmost being of my baby. You are knitting this baby together in my womb. I praise You because my baby is fearfully and wonderfully made. (From Psalm 139:13-14)

Thank you, Lord, that before you formed my baby in the womb, you knew him or her.

(From Jeremiah 1:5)

Thank you, Lord, that even now, this baby is Your workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which You have prepared in advance for him or her to do. (From Ephesians 2:10)

Scriptures to pray for infants:

From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise. May ____ learn to praise you from an early age! (From Psalm 8:2)

Please tend to ____ like a shepherd who gathers the lambs in his arms; carry ____ close to your heart and gently lead me, his/her mom. (From Isaiah 40:11)

Lord, from infancy, may ____ know the Holy Scriptures. May your Word make ____ wise for salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. (From 2 Timothy 3:15)

Scriptures to pray for toddlers:

Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.’ Help no one to hinder _____ from coming to Jesus! Let _____ realize at an early age that You love the little children. (From Matthew 19:14)

Help ____ to listen to his or her father who gave ___ life and not despise his/her mom when she is old. (From Proverbs 23:22)

May ____ obey his/her parents in the Lord, for this is right. (From Ephesians 6:1)

Scriptures to pray for preschoolers:

Specific Requests

-That your preborn baby stays healthy in the womb

-That your preborn baby senses your love for him/her even now

-That God would touch your baby with His love and a sense of security

-That God would protect the baby during the birth process

-That God would provide caring nurses, midwives, doctors during delivery

-That your little baby would have a heart soft toward the Lord Jesus

-That you and your husband would be given great wisdom in training your child

-That God would guide you in disciplining, discerning when your child is able to understand and obey

-That the Bible Stories you read would penetrate and bless and intrigue

-That prayer would become a natural part of everyday living in your home

-That God would teach your child through all circumstances how to rely on Him

-That your child would learn to be kind and to share

-That your baby would sense your love for him or her and feel safe and secure

-That your little one would come to know Jesus at an early age

-That your child would value integrity and purity

-That your child would be confident in what they believe no matter what others say

-That your child would be able to communicate when he/she is scared or confused

-That God would expose anyone in your child’s path who might hurt this little one before any hurt is done

-That your home would be a place your child and his/her friends always want to be

-That your child learns to apologize and say “I’m sorry”

School Concerns

Ask any mom whose child is ready for preschool or kindergarten. Before you know it, this time has come! Pray in advance for your child’s first school experience—that the school down the road from you would be filled with godly teachers and a principal of high character. That the school would be a place of order and happiness. That no evil would go unnoticed there…pray before your little one even GETS there and ask God to make that school a GREAT place. By praying for a local school and your “best guess” of where your little one will go, you are blessing the children there now who need your prayers. A school is a huge influence in a child’s life, whether it’s a public, charter, Christian or home school. Our children’s best hours are spent in school. We need to be praying for the schools and the teachers there.

Moms in Prayer Concerns

Take a moment at the end of your prayer time to ask God to keep calling moms to active, focused prayer for this next generation. Pray for women in other countries who risk much to even gather to pray in Moms in Prayer groups. Check out our website for incredible stories, like the women in Nepal who climbed a mountain that overlooked their village once a month and fasted and prayed the whole time their children were in school. Stories like that!You can also go to our prayer calendar so you can pray for Moms in Prayer groups around the world.

None of us is smart enough to be a parent. We face unique challenges and decisions each and every day. We want so much to help our children be all God created them to be! The best way to do this? Bring it to the God who formed these children and gave them their personalities, who knows their character and their gifts best. PRAY. And leave your worries to the Shepherd who “gently leads those who have young.” That’s you! (From Isaiah 40:11)
