Activities & Curriculum Coordinator Position Description

Forjando Alas (“Forging Wings”) is a youth center in Uvita, located on the south Pacific coast of Costa Rica. We use a child-centered approach to provide a safe learning place and healthy lifestyle choices for tomorrow's leaders. We teach self-confidence, values and professional skills through art, technology, and environmental education.

Summary

Oversees and directs planning, organizing and implementation of all outdoor leadership and curriculum development programs. Each of these programs contributes to increased social competence and goal setting in children, thereby removing the need for drug use.

Job Duties

-Attend the center 5 days per week (4 hours) and provide support forthe other teachers

-Provide a structured English curriculum component long term

-Develop lessons to teach computer skills

-Create promotional materials for all outdoor activities and summer camp(such as leaflets, banners, and stickers, t-shirts and caps)

-Provide enrichment for classroom lessons: games, songs, instructional materials

-Meet the community to spread our mission, goals, and achievements

-Find sponsors for outdoor activities and create a database with all sponsors and activities offered.

-Create and maintain a calendar with a form for every outdoor activity (name, objective, number of children, etc.)

-Facilitate initiation of the new Girls’Club program, including writingobjectives of the club, rules, activities, and schedule.

-Support creative materials such as: photography, art and film

-Co-coordinate all planning for fundraising events: promotional materials (banners, videos, flyers, ads),event games, and location.

-Coordinate volunteer efforts to achieve the goals of the organization inside and outside the center.

Qualifications

-1-2 years relevant education and curriculum development experience. Familiarity with Costa Rican education system a plus.

-Professional teaching certificate

-Advanced level of conversational Spanish

-Demonstrated project management abilities.

-Solid computer skills and ability to effectively manage data. Other tech skills a plus.

-Bachelor's degree

-Commitment to social justice and community organizing

-Familiarity with issues on the south Pacific coast of Costa Rica

-Preferably living in Costa Rica

Terms & Conditions

-This is a position created through a U.S. Embassy grant for drug prevention.

-The contract will be for 18 months with the possibility of extension contingent upon performance and available resources.

-The position will be based in Uvita, Puntarenas, Costa Rica

-Compensation: $400/month
