The Chair thanked contributors to the 2013 Spring Meeting–Dr Rajesh Nadkarni, (Stalking) Professor Sue Bailey,(Reflections on Practices in Psychiatry over the last 10 years), Professor Nick Craddock & Dr Tony O’Neill (Genetics in Psychiatry), Dr Catriona Herron (Creativity in Psychiatry), Dr Ashok Roy, Dr James Warner, Dr Lynn Agnew, Dr Kathyrn Cousins, Graham Music, Glenn Roberts, Dr Siobhan O’Connor, and Graham Jonesand all those who chaired the various sessions.

Officer Reports
The 2012 Annual Review includes reports from the Chair, Dr Philip McGarry, Faculty Chairs (Addictions, General & Community, Child and Adolescent, Forensic, Intellectual Disability, Medical Psychotherapy, Rehabilitation & Social and Liaison),Private and Independent Practitioners Group in NI, SAS & Affiliates and Trainees Committees and the Joint Committee of Service User, Carer & Psychiatrists, the Policy, Public Education, CPD, Leadership & Management Committees as well as the Education Training & Standards, Legislation and Regional Advisor representatives.
In addition the Chair thanked all those involved in contributing so generously of their time and expertise to building and sustaining the life of the College in Northern Ireland. He paid special tribute tooutgoing officers, Dr Janine Lynch (Acting Honorary Secretary), Dr Catherine McDonnell and Dr Pat Manley (Elected Representatives), Dr Bob Boggs (Addictions Chair), Dr Kathleen McCaffrey (SAS & Affiliates Chair) Dr Maura McDermott (Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Chair), Dr Peter Trimble (CPD Chair), Dr Maria O’Kane (Policy Chair), Dr Paul Bell (Legislation), Dr Fred Browne (Legislation) and Dr Cathal Cassidy (Immediate Past Chair).
He congratulated the Division’s 2012 Award Winners, Dr Mughda Kamat (Research), Dr Leanne Armitage (Audit) and Dr Sara Maguire (Dr Thomas Freeman Award - Senior), Dr Mark Rodgers (Dr Thomas Freeman Award – Junior) and thanked Dr Tony O’Neill for chairing the RCPsych in NI Annual Research and Audit Presentation Day.
The New Members Reception and dinner in their honour was held on the evening of Thursday 9 May in the Slieve Donard Hotel. There were 26 new members since January 2012.
In recognition of the 10th Anniversary of the Division, andas a tribute to all the past Section and Division Chairs, a stained glass window of the College Crest was unveiled by the President, Professor Sue Bailey and the Chair, Dr Philip McGarry. The window will be installed in the Members’ Room in Clifton House.

Finance Officer’s Report – Dr Damien Hughes

Dr Damien Hughes reported a surplus for the year ending December 2012 of £29,361 (£19,425 - 2011). The Division worked in partnership with a number of external organization, including Northern Ireland Association for the Study of Psychoanalysis, Ulster Paediatric Society, British Geriatrics Society, the Public Health Authority and CALDPN to deliver various academic programmes throughout 2012 and had continued to do so into 2013, with the final Personality Disorder Regional Meeting being held in April.
£3900 by way of sale of exhibition space had been received from pharmaceutical companies (£3784-2011).
Surpluses generated from meetings amounted to £10,466 in 2012 and support for initiatives and activities amounted to £15,712 (£21,650-2011). These activities included Service User and Carer support, Public Education initiatives, contribution to faculty and group meetings, Media Training, a New Members Reception, Research and Audit prizes and hospitality for visiting members such as the Rehabilitation and Social Psychiatry Faculty who held their annual academic meeting in Belfast in 2012.
Having reorganised the office space in Clifton House some savings in room hire costs had been made and the Attic Space is in regular use by our members and associated groups including PIPSIG, ARBD and Patient Liaison group
The masterclass programme whilst primarily aiming to provide low cost, high quality CPD, continued to be very financially successful and had generate a healthy surplus permitting the Division this year to make available an electronic copy of Professor Keith Rix and David Sharpe’s masterclass on Report Writing & Presenting in Court. Dr Hughes paid tribute to all the speakers and members for facilitating and supporting the masterclass initiative.
Efforts to support recruitment and into psychiatry included financial support for the All Ireland Spike Milligan Intra-varsity Public Speaking event, organised with colleagues in the College of Psychiatry of Ireland and Medfest, the UK’s first national medical film festival organised by the Psychiatrist in Training Committee and locally with QUB.
Dr Hughes thanked members for their continued support for the local meetings and also thanked the Department of Health and the pharmaceutical industry.
The College centrally had continued resourcing RCPsych in NI; £143,131 worth of administrative support had been provided through the College’s general funds in 2012 and Dr Hughes paid tribute to the President and Vanessa Cameron and her staff for the excellent service received by members in NI.

Nominations to the Executive Committee

Notices of vacancies had been duly posted to members; the following officers were appointed with effect from 3 July:-
Dr Diana Day-Cody - Chair, Dr Maria O’Kane - Vice Chair, Dr Heather Hanna and Dr Heather Hawthorne - Elected Representatives.
Dr Paddy Moynihan was proposed by Dr Diana Day-Cody and seconded by Dr Michael Nicholson and there being no further nominations, will take up the post of Chair, Rehabilitation and Social Faculty.
Dr Peter McKiernon was proposed by Dr Min Chew and seconded by Dr Kathleen McCaffrey and there being no further nominations, will take up the post of Chair, SAS & Affiliates.
Dr Min Chew was proposed by Dr Bob Boggs and seconded by Dr Kathleen McCaffrey and there being no further nominations, will take up the post of Vice Chair, SAS & Affiliates.
Dr Scott Payne was proposed by Dr Bob Boggs and seconded by Dr Helen Toal and there being no further nominations, will take up the post of Vice Chair, Addictions Faculty.
Dr Heather Hanna was proposed by Dr Maura McDermott and seconded by Dr Anna McGovern and there being no further nominations, will take up the post of Chair, Child and Adolescent Faculty.
Dr Lisheen Cassidy was proposed by Dr Maura McDermott and seconded by Dr Hilary Boyd and there being no further nominations, will take up the post of Vice Chair, Child and Adolescent Faculty.
Dr Peter Trimble was proposed by Dr Maria O’Kane and seconded by Dr Sean Doherty and there being no further nominations, will take up the post of Chair, Policy & Public Affairs.
Dr Caroline Donnelly was proposed by Dr Peter Trimble and seconded by Dr Peter Sloan and there being no further nominations, will take up the post of Chair, CPD Committee.
Secretary’s Note: The Education and Standards Committee had ratified the proposal that the Faculty Vice Chair role in Northern Ireland would also incorporate the Regional Representative role and that Vice Chairs will act as alternates to Chairs for the purposes of attending central Faculty meetings.

Any Other Business

Dr Holly Greer and Dr Maggie McGurgan presented on their work as Student Associate Web Editors within the College; members listened to an excellent podcast produced by a student on placement within the Belfast Trust, entitled Psychiatry Work Experience.
