HUMAN SYDNEYEAST BODYBOARDING TITLES

presented by Endless Bodyboarding Club

Bright blue skies, fun shorey style waves and a cooling onshore wind welcomed competitors last Thursday morning for the Human Sydney East Bodyboarding Titles.

Competitors from Cronulla, Caringbah, Gymea, Endeavour, Kirrawee, Menai, Peakhurst Port Hacking and JannaliHigh Schools battled it out in the small but contestable waves at Wanda Beach on November 23, 2006.

The four girls that rocked up to the event looked very happy to be at the beach, all wearing huge smiles and looking so keen to get out there!

In the senior girls, Monique Farmer showed her expertise and experience, with some nice spins and good wave selection, edging out Kristen McAree, who did really well considering she has only just started bodyboarding.

Rachael Malay and Peta Smith had loads of fun in their heat, with surfer girl Peta Smith having a good crack at lying down, even going for a couple of turns off the lip.

From round one, the junior boys were intent on catching as many waves as possible, maxing out their ten wave count, and pushing each other to the limit.

Spin roll combinations picked up the highest scores of the day, and riders with a smooth powerful style were rewarded with higher points.

The standout juniors of the day were Kane Baker, Ryan Scott, Ace Hamann and Taylor Edwards. Taylor dominated all his heats, managing a big roll, and 2 stylish spin/roll combos in the individual final that suitably impressed the judges, and scored him a well deserved win!

Luke Rodgers and Jem Penny were the standouts in the hard fought senior boys division.

Luke’s quick forward and reverse spins gained attention from everyone, earning him the nickname “spin king” in the judges tent. The spin king busted out an array of stylish multiple spins in the final to take out the division.

The day finished perfectly with a bundle of free shoes for competitors donated from Human.

Everyone left with smiles on their faces, and the winners also left with some sweet looking medals around their necks!

A big thank you to Derek Hulme, Human, Endless Bodyboarding Club the judges, schools, teachers and all the competitors for making it a great day!
