ØTheft Case of Rs. 3.83 Lakh from the Locker ofStation Control Room ( SCR) of Rohini (West) Metro Station solved within 24 hours.

ØOne of the employees of House Keeping Agency at the Metro Station arrested and Rs. 3,73 Lakh recovered.

With the arrest of oneSatish @ Sheru s/o Ramji Lalr/o Shiv Ram Park, Nangloi, Delhi, 20 years, an employee of House Keeping Agency, engaged at Rohini (West) Metro Station, the Delhi Metro Police has solved the theft case of Rs 3.83 lakh on 8.3.2014 from the Cash Chest / Locker of the Station Control Room of Rohini (West) Metro Station within twenty four hours.

INCIDENT

On 8.3.2014, a PCR call regarding theft in the Rohini (West) Metro Station Control Room ( SCR ) was received at P.S. Rithala (Metro). On this information, staff of P.S. Rithala reached the spot immediately and the Crime Team was also summoned. Sh. Ashutosh Thakur, Station Controller reported that he was on duty in the intervening night of 7/8.03.2014 from 10 pm to 7 am. He left theStation Control Room (SCR)after locking it at about 5.30 am to report atthe Customer Care. When he returned the SCR at about 6.30 am, he found thatRs. 3,83,666/- from theGodrej Cash Chest (Locker) and his Train Operator (T.O.) baghad been stolen. Hence, on the complaint of the Station Controller, Sh. Ashutosh Thakur, a case FIR No 20/14, dated 08.03.2014, u/s 380 IPC was registered at P.S. Rithala (Metro) and investigation was taken up.

INVESTIGATION:-

During the course of investigation, the Crime Scene was got inspected from Crime Team.However, during the scanning of CCTV footage of the Metro Station, it was found that two CCTV Cameras facing the entrance of Station Control Room were non functional since about 6 am , which were the only available cameras to keep surveillance over the SCR.Further inspection of these two cameras revealed the disconnection offeeder wires.This incident appeared to be the handiwork of some insider staff of the Metro Station.All the employees of the House Keeping Agency as well as D.M.R.C. , who were deployed at night, were summoned and interrogated.These two Cameras of CCTV were installed at a suitable height and the possible access to these cameras was studied and it was observed that someone from the gap in the stairs and platform No-1 reached these cameras and cut their feeder.The CCTV footage of relevant time of the distant Dome Camera was minutely seen and it wasfurther observed that one thin and lean person entered the said gap and came out of that gap within minutes and both cameras facing SCR became non operational.On the basis of this clue, the employees of housekeeping staff and DMRC were again interrogated; their movements were studied and were confronted with this footage. During cross interrogation, accused Satish was identified who on sustained interrogation, broke down, spilled the bean and confessed the crime. He was arrested in the case who led the police party to his house in Nangloi from where Rs 3.73 Lakhalong with T.O. bag was recovered. The accused told that he was in need of money due to his prevailing family circumstances and he was aware of the daily huge cash ( Sale proceeds) in the Locker of the SCR and knew all the loopholes of the system. He had stolen the duplicate key of the SCR about two months ago and had since been planning for the crime to make the fast buck. On the intervening night of 7/8.3.2014, he was on duty as house keeper in the Metro Station from 10 pm to 6 am.When the Station Controller went to report at the Customer Care at about 5.30 am as usual, he reached the junction of the CCTV Cameras, cut the feeder wires ofthe cameras with the knife, unlocked the SCR with the duplicate key, entered the SCR, picked up the keys of the Locker from the drawer of the Station Controller table and took out the entire cash from the Locker. He took the stolen money in the Train Operator (T.O.) bag and moved out of the Metro Station through Emergency Exit Gate, which was out of CCTV Surveillance.

Recovery :-

1.Cash Rs. 3,73lakh and T.O. bag.

2.One key of Station Controller Room (SCR) Lock.

3.One Knife cum Cutter (American Knife) which he used in cutting the feeder wires of CCTV Cameras.

Profile of Accused:- The accused Satish @ Sheru, 20 yrs, qualification 12thpass, unmarried and has been working as an employee ofHouse Keeping Agency named Asha Enterprises for the last one year.
