PRINTMAKING
SECOND Quarter Homework Journal Assignments
Ms. Trussa
Draw the following assignments in your “drawing journal” (sketchbook) for the dates shown, or for the following Monday for each date. Drawings are due at the beginning of class, and will not be accepted otherwise. Use actual objects or photographs as drawing references for better, more realistic quality. Keep all reference photos taped in your sketchbook. These sketches will serve as possible basis for your in-class projects! Use the entire page for each sketch by enlarging your chosen images. Any mediums may used.
- Nov. 4- Draw a 5 or 6” square area of wood grain enlarged to fit your sketchbook page. Be careful to record the lines clearly asreally seen on the actual wood. Draw with smooth contour lines, not sketchy. These drawn linear textures resemble the carving needed on linocut printing blocks.
- Nov. 11- Using only lines, draw an enlarged portion of an animal, fish or bird, so big that it is not recognizable. Write what your subject matter is on the back of the page. For realistic, accurate textural details, an actual close-up photo (magazine) must be used. Tape photo on the back of your page. This design would make an interesting textural collagraph, linocut or embossed print.
- Nov. 18- Using a reference photo (magazine) draw the textures viewed on an underwater object. Enlarge the textures to create an interesting design. This design would make an interesting textural collagraph, linocut or embossed print.

- Dec. 2- Draw an interesting symbol based upon the outlined shape of any bird. Shade in the shape with any color(s). The detailed edges would make for a nice stencil print.
- Dec. 9- Draw your three name initials in an interesting font style from enlarging actual letters found in a magazine, on the computer or in a newspaper. Tape or glue the original letters to the top of your sketchbook page. Preserving the original font style, enlarge your initial letters to be at least the size of your hand. This lettering style may be used in your stationary design.
- Dec. 16- Draw a logo or symbol that may be used in your stationary design with your name initials’ lettering style from last week’s sketch. Your last name initial must appear in the center of the three and larger than the other two initial letters. Be sure to show interesting use of color in this design. Overlapping, varying heights, color variation, color mixing & fading, etc. may be used.
