Clarification in the Grading Guidelines:

• Only work that shows knowledge and mastery of current material will be given a grade.

• Students are expected to complete all assignments and assessments and turn them in on time. If a student does not turn in an assignment, a MSG (missing) will be entered in the gradebook. This will calculate as a ZERO until replaced with a grade. If no evidence of mastery is provided by the end of the quarter, the teacher will replace the MSG with a “0.”

• Students are expected to prepare in advance for all minor and major assessments and to try their best to accurately demonstrate their understanding of the learning targets.

• Students should use formative assessments and minor summative assessments as feedback to measure their learning progress in preparation for major summative assessments.

• Students may earn the privilege of reassessing a major summative assessment by completing all formative work, preparing for

assessments in advanceand demonstrating that new learning has takenplace which warrants the need for a reassessment. This

could include successfully completing work, attending tutorials, submission of missingassignments, correction of assignments,

extra practice, success on formative assessments, etc.

• All students will be given the opportunity to earn the privilege of reassessment of all majorsummative assessments, excluding

semester exams.

• If the assessment was completed on time, the ten day window for reassessment begins when the student receives feedback from the assessment. If the assessment was not completed on time, the ten day window for reassessment begins from the due date.

• If a teacher believes that a student is not in good faith preparing for assessments and is using the reassessment opportunity as a way to put off learning, the teacher will discuss this with the student and contact the parent. A student could forfeit their reassessing opportunities if they continue to fail to prepare for assessments.

Textbook Info –

In Pre AP Algebra 1 we will be usingCollege Board’s official Pre AP program called SpringBoard – Mathematics with Meaning – Algebra 1. The College Board developed SpringBoard as a clearly articulated, engaging, and rigorous framework for mathematics instruction that develops the skills and knowledge necessary to prepare students for college and to compete in the 21st century. Students need to be able to solve complex math problems using a variety of mathematical knowledge and skills, collaborate with others to complete a task, and communicate effectively using the language of mathematics. With SpringBoard, students explore the “big ideas” and develop the critical thinking skills needed to apply and communicate concepts in real-world situations.

You will receive a consumable student book/workbook and you will also receive access to the online version. Go to the DISD Single Sign On at Sign in with your regular username and password, and then click the “SpringBoardCollegeBoard” button. Follow the directions on the site.

**All Algebra 1 students will take the Algebra 1 End of Course STAAR test in May**
