Glen Ellen-Kenwood is sponsoring the May SCARC (Sonoma County Association of Rotary Clubs) on May 25. We will be meeting at the Wild Oaks Saddle Club off of White Oak in the Oakmont Community. This will be a dinner and business meeting with our meeting focus on world peace. Please sign up with Ann Peters. We would like to have as many of our members there as possible and you will be half price for your dinner! 4:00 set up and dinner will be from 5:30pm till 7:00pm. No host bar.

FUNKY FRIDAYS

We will again be pouring wine and beer at the Funky Friday concerts at the Hood Mansion on North Pythian Road every Friday starting May 26 through September 1. They have e added a 60s.f. dance floor.

We raised over $4,000 last summer from this event. We will need two to four volunteers each week for wine and beer pouring. You can bring your spouse/partner, friend or neighbor to help us at this event. Free parking and admission for our worker bees. We earn 25% of the net proceeds. OUR NEW HOME

We have changed our meeting schedule to twice a month and are meeting at the Kenwood Depot 314 Warm Springs Road in Kenwood on the first and third Wednesdays of each month. We will be meeting from 5:30-7:00pm

Past President David went over the 4th of July Parade and fund raiser plans in Kenwood.

DUNBAR FOOD PROGRAM

Program ends in May. The program provides food help for 24 kids and their families every Friday at Dunbar Elementary. We need help in moving the food on Fridays from Sonoma Boys and Girls Club in Sonoma to Dunbar School from 1:00 to 3:00 as well as staffing the 4:00-5:00 shift to hand out the bags. If we all pitch in it only requires you to volunteer for one shift a month. Please sign up on Doodle Survey page.

ROTARY BOCCE BALL TOURNEMENT

Please see John Meserve to reserve your spot on the Rotary Bocce Tournament to be held Saturday August 19 at Julliard Park in Santa Rosa from 9:30am to 3:30pm. Lots of fun, good food, and new Rotary friends.

PRESIDENT JOHN’S DEBUNKING

President John’s debunking party and passing of the President’s pin will be held on Sunday, June 25 from 4:00-7:00 at Casa Lemmon, 122 Bonnie Way, and Glen Ellen.

THIS WEEKS SPEAKER

Bill McNamara President of Quarryhill Botanical Gardens in Glen Ellen was our speaker this evening. One of the world’s pre-eminent Asian Botanical Gardens.

Bill is the Indiana Jones of roses and has a worldwide reputation. The Quarry Hill Gardens is one of the world’s preeminent Asian botanical gardens. One February 22, 2017 he accepted the prestigious Veitch Medal from the Royal Horticultural Society of London, England. He collects specimens from around the world with a special focus on China. The gardens feature a Japanese ( Monet type ) of bridge as well as ponds to create a beautiful an d tranquil spot right in our own back yard. They have over 600 different speciies of roses

May 25- GEK to host the Sonoma County Association of Rotary meeting at the Wild Oak Saddle Club in Oakmont. All members are asked to attend as hosts. The focus of the meeting will be on the Rotary Peace Fellowship Program.

Many thanks to all of you and your significant others and especially to Ann and Alec Peters for their tireless efforts in sorting and pricing all the donations on Thursday May 18 and 19. Preview on Friday night grossed about $1,000.00.

The main event on Saturday May 20 was busy from 8:00am to 3:00pm. I don’t have a gross sales amount as yet, but we all were busy helping people all day!
