Job Description
Job Purpose:
A Soda Jerk greets customers, take orders for food and beverages, prepares and serves food, bakes and cooks, busses tables, does dishes, monitors behavior and safety of customers, and performs general housekeeping duties.. S/he displays good initiative, time management skills, and has a strong work ethic. S/he is outgoing with good communication skills – actively promote products and shares the history of The Linger Longer, soda fountains, and Benningtonwith customers. Performs other duties, as assigned.
Duties:
- Arrives 15 minutes prior to shift to prepare to open
- Greets customers, provides menus, explains menu items
- Obtains orders for food, beverages, games, and other products
- Prepares and serves food and beverages according to standard; uses proper glassware
- Busses tables and washes dishes
- Maintains cleanliness and neatness of kitchen, fountain area, and building
- Totals guest checks and acts as cashier
- Uses, cleans, and maintains kitchen equipment properly, including: malt machine, microwave, mixer, waffle iron, waffle cone machine, grill, popcorn machine, coffee maker, fridge, freezer, oven, etc.
- Responsible for cleaning counters, tables, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning bathrooms, emptying trash, defrosting freezers/fridges, polishing windows and display cases etc., weeding/watering garden/potted plants, and general housekeeping.
- Stocks and maintains supplies and products
- Stays busy throughout shift; finds something to do
- Monitors customer behavior, oversees kids
- Shares the history of The Linger Longer, Bennington, and Soda Fountains with customers
- Closes the business and leaves it clean and well-stocked for the next shift
- Counts money at the end of shift and prepares it for deposit
- Keeps management informed; communicates with co-workers
- Recommends changes in products, services, activities
- Contributes to team effort
- Performs other duties, as assigned
- Must be honest, trustworthy, and ethical
- Must have great customer service skills; be outgoing and enthusiastic
- Must be well groomed and clean
- Must know how to count change, perform simple math, and use a calculator
- Must have a great attitude and a willingness to learn
- Must display strong teamwork and problem solving skills
- Must be able to work independently, with initiative, and steadily throughout shift
- Must be comfortable visiting with customers and overseeing kids
- Must have excellent cleaning/housekeeping skills, or be willing to learn
- Must have basic cooking and baking skills, or be willing to learn; be able to follow recipes; be able to operate a mixer, food processor, grill, waffle iron, waffle cone machine, coffee maker, malt machine, etc.
- Must be able to work in a high pace environment and be able to multi-task
- Minimize waste of supplies and labor.
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs. and to stand/walk for up to 8 hours, with breaks. Is able to bend, stoop, kneel, reach and squat for various job functions.
- First Aid CPR certification preferred
- Must become knowledgeable of food safety standards; Kansas Food Handlers certification preferred. Food service experience beneficial.
- Ability to work all shifts, weekends, and holidays preferred.
- Must have command of oral/written use of the English language and can be clearly understood.
- Employees who are high school students must maintain good grades and be in good standingwith their school.
- Must be age 16, or 16 within a short time.
- Must present proof of United States citizenship orauthorization to work in the United States.
- Is knowledgeable on the Company'ssafety, security and health policies as they apply to event management
- Is knowledgeableon laws and regulations regarding accommodating disabled guests.
- Adhere to all Company policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned
