Hello:
Welcome to the Online Teaching with WebCT. Here is some information to set up your computer and some steps to get you started. My name is Gretchen Whetham, and I will be your instructor for the course. If you have any questions please contact me at or at 1-250-489-2751, ext. 315 or toll free 1-877-489-2687, ext. 315.
This course will start January 5, 2004and complete April 8, 2004. Examinations are scheduled between April 13 and 23, so you may not be totally complete until April 23. The course will be available to you on January 2, 2004. If you have not logged-in to the course by January 19, 2004 you will be withdrawn.
STARTING YOUR COURSE:
Your first task is to check out the web page. You may log-in to your course the Friday previous to your course start date to have a look around, as you would look at a textbook. (note: use lowercase with no spaces for your user name and password)

*Exception: If you have taken a BCcampus course before, please use your designated password from previous logins, not the name version above.
LOGGING IN:
- Access the course by starting your browser and entering the following address (URL).
- Click the Login to Courses section on the top navigation bar. Go to Login Now in the upper left side of the screen. (You will want to read this page for directions as well.) You will then go to another screen. Click on the log on to myWebCT link.
- You will be asked for your User Name and Password.
- Enter the User Name and Password that you have been providedand then click the OK button. Please note that if you have registered before with BCcampus, you will use your existing password, and that you can skip the change password instructions in 5 and 6 that follow.
- Currently you do not have a unique password; this information permits anyone to access your student files and consequently information may be changed in the file, inadvertently or purposely, which may have an adverse effect on your grade. Click on Change Password at the top of your screen.
- You must then enter your old passwordfollowedby your new PRIVATE password. The password must be at leastfour letters or numbers. Use something you will remember. Enter it a second time so that the machine is sure it is right. Do NOT tell anyone else your password. When you complete this process, the system will tell if you've been successful. As soon as you move on, it will ask you to re-enter your USER ID and your NEW password, before you will be allowed to continue.
- Learn more about the Course. Click the course Buad216 from your myWebCT. Read the course outlines, communications, etc. Regular interaction with your instructor and fellow students is critical to your success.
- You will now want to bookmark this site to make it easier to find the next time. The address to bookmark is: The next time you enter the course just click on this address (URL).

Here are some settings and computer requirements
Computer Requirements:
PC USERS:
- Pentium or faster
- 32MB of RAM
- Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP
- Minimum 50 MB free disk space
- Modem/internet access: Minimum connection of 28.8kps – 56kps, DSL or cable modem is recommended.
Software:
The only software you need to access the online course is an internet browser – either Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4 or higher. (Please avoid using Netscape Versions 4.0, 4.08, 6.x and Internet Explore Version 6 – as they cause problems.) The preferred browser is Internet Explorer 5.0 as it supports XML.

Microsoft Internet Explorer
Netscape Navigator: This link will download a WebCT-friendly Netscape version. Click on the Save As dialog box. ftp://archive.netscape.com/archive/communicator/english/4.7/windows/windows95_or_nt/base_install/cb32d47.exe
Also you should have virus protection software loaded on your computer.
Internet Explorer Settings
To enable Java and JavaScript in Internet Explorer 4.x, follow these steps:
- Click Tools
- Click Internet Options
- Click Advanced Tab and scroll down the screen to Java VM
- Check Java console enabled, Java JIT compiler and Java logging enabled
To set the cache settings for Internet Explorer, follow these steps:
- Click View
- Click Internet Options
- Click General Tab
- Click Settings button
- Click Every visit to the page button.
In Internet Explorer 5.X access this from the Tools pull down menu.
You will need Microsoft Word 2000, Word 97 or Word XP to complete the Word Processing course. All other courses can be completed using WordPad.
Netscape Settings
You need to ensure that your browser is JavaScript and Java enabled. To enable Java and JavaScript in Netscape 4.X, follow these steps:
- Click Edit
- Click Preferences
- Click Advanced
- Ensure all buttons for Java and JavaScript are checked
To set the cache settings for Netscape, follow these steps:
- Click Edit
- Click Preferences
- Click Advanced
- Click Cache
- Click the Every time option
- Click OK
