TITLE: Manager Recreation Services

SUMMARY OF ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Director of Resident Services, the Manager of Recreation Services is responsible for the development, coordination, direction and evaluation of recreation services and programs for residents of Haro Park Centre in accordance with the mission, vision and values of the facility. This is a temporary contract position that has been developed in order to implement the recommendations of a recent operational review.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES: Implement recommendations from Operational Review

1.  Review, refine and implement the new “proposed schedule”

2.  Using the Standards of Practice for Recreation Therapists develop a job description for a manager of the Department.

3.  Reallocate administrative tasks currently completed by the recreation staff.

4.  Develop and implement communication strategies as outlined in the review that have staff attending regular established interdisciplinary meetings as well as recreation therapy focused meetings

5.  Develop individual programs that can be implemented by recreation staff on the units

6.  Revamp the group programs on the main floor

7.  Work with the staff to ensure documentation is up to date.

8.  Align the recreation staff and department with the Care Department

9.  Work with staff to improve time management

10. Integrate therapeutic interventions that are matched to functional abilities and limitations of the elders.

11. Focus on researching new activities, ideas and spontaneous interactions between elders and staff.

12.  Set up program where students are assigned to the program.

13.  Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience

A Recreation Therapist well versed in the standards of practice as defined by CTRA. A skilled manager who is comfortable leading change and is committed to designing a highly functioning department that delivers quality recreation services.

4  Ability to work with interdisciplinary teams and the leadership team of the home.
