Brief summary of the proposed change.
Expand the documentation rules for Nostalgia to include a broader range of planes that were produced pre – 1980.
Exact wording proposed for the rule book. (List paragraph numbers where applicable. Example: Change “quote present rule book wording” to “exact wording required”.
3.1.7: For Event 461: Nostalgia 3.1.7.1: Date of Release 3.1.7.1.1: The latest accepted magazine, or book, cover date for the 'published design', or the manufacturer's 'release date' of a kit will be prior to 1/1/80. 3.1.7.1.2: If the plan used for construction and documentation was published in a book or magazine, all of the parts of the plane must be scalable and buildable from the plan. The aircraft construction and materials must be detailed, and not just a 3-view. This is especially important for the shape of the airfoil if it is not from a published set of coordinates. 3.1.7.1.3: If the ‗kit‘ or ‗published design‘ had several release dates that include modifications to the original design, only those changes made prior to 1/1/80 will be accepted. 3.1.7.1.4: Models that have been kitted, but where there is no date on the plan or on the instructions, an advertisement in a dated magazine or book can be used for dating of the design.
(ADD) Where a “published design” or manufacturer’s “release date” of a kit is not found, the CD may accept the any TWO (2) of the following as “proof” of a plane being a pre 1980 design:
(1) Dated original plans, hand drawn or otherwise
(2) Dated photo record
(3) Pre 1980 contest report listing the plane flown.
(4) Witnessed affidavit from person having built or flown the plane prior to 1/1/80.
(5) Any other proof that satisfies the CD that the plane was designed, built and flown prior to 1/1/80 and the current plane is in keeping with the original design and spirit of contest.
Logic behind proposed change, including alleged shortcomings of the present rules. State intent for future reference.
The present rules exclude a great number of planes that are the heritage of our sport. These are the pioneers of sailplane design. The intent is to expand and thus help preserve this great heritage. It was a day and age where many of the planes flown were “non-commercial” and original in design. To limit the planes able to be flown in a Nostalgia contest to only commercially produced or published designs, leaves out so many of the planes of that day and age. The goal is to preserve this great heritage and encourage the building and flying of these great timeless models.
New event test data/information (new events only), please provide what testing of this new event has taken place to include number of participants and number of contests.
