Career in Brief

Technology Innovation: Designed and prototyped a national computer network on child abuse and neglect in 1986. Formed an alliance with Apple Computer and General Electric Information Services that led to the development of the network prototype, and its demonstration at the National Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect. Created the Internet-based Child Abuse Prevention Network in 1995. The Network reaches over 300,000 professionals and concerned citizens in the USA and in 80 other countries every year.

Computers In Human Services: Edited (with Richard Reinoehl) the first book on Computer Literacy in Human Services. Gave the first presentation to computer networking engineers on the utilization of computer networks for child abuse prevention. Won the first nationwide planning grant on computer networking for child abuse prevention from the US Department of Commerce. Formed the alliance between Cornell University and LifeNET, Inc., for the development and commercialization of networking technology strategies for child abuse prevention.

Not-for-Profit Development: Helped take a small center from a single expiring federal grant to permanent state funding, and an annual budget of $5 Million in outside grants and contracts. Wrote and led several of these grants projects.

Public-Private Partnerships: Led the first efforts to link corporations to public sector goals in the area of family wellbeing for Federal Region 2 (New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands.) This eventually resulted in a partnership between adoption agencies and corporations to find adoptive families for special needs children.

Computerized Tracking System: Developed the concept and facilitated a process for state-to-state coordination of services to migrant farmworker children affected by child abuse and neglect. The system was implemented under the Migrant Student Record Transfer System. It provided for cooperation between migrant educators and local child protective workers without violating privacy or confidentiality of records in either system.
