Conference: 8:46-9:32 AM

Welcome to 9th Grade World Geography! I am looking forward to the year and working with each of you through our study of Geography. This syllabus will provide you and your parents with valuable information to help you to be successful in my class.

Required Materials:

·  1 Single-subject spiral notebook (for Interactive Notebook)

·  Notebook Paper

·  Pen/Pencil

·  Colored Map Pencils

·  Other materials for projects, etc. may be needed throughout the year; ample notice will be given in these instances.

The students will need to bring their notebook to class daily, along with their textbook. Students are expected to be in class daily. In the event of an absence, it is the student’s responsibility to find out what assignment(s) they may have missed.

Course Requirements:

1. Interactive Notebook—Students will keep a notebook, containing assignments, class notes, reviews, maps, etc. The Notebook will be graded for required content on a regular basis.

2. Any assigned homework or in-class quizzes, worksheets, or group work will count as daily grades. Late work will receive a 10 point reduction per day. NO late work will be accepted more than 3 days past the due date.

3. Projects will be assigned with ample time to complete, and will count as two (2) test grades. A rubric will be given to students which will explain what is expected. Late work will receive a 5 point reduction per day.

4. Tests may occur at the end of a chapter and/or unit, and will be announced in plenty of time for students to study and prepare effectively for the exam. A six weeks exam will also be given at the end of each six weeks, to cover all material presented for the entire six week period.

5. EOC (End-of-Course) Exam: This year freshman students will be given an EOC Exam for World Geography, covering content from the current year. This is a very important facet of the class, as the State of Texas mandates that the grade on this exam count 15% of the final grade for the year. More information on this exam will be forthcoming throughout the year.

Grading:

Tests and Projects count 50%

Daily Grades count 50%

There will be a minimum of 12 grades taken per six weeks.

See District Policy for Grading Scale

Classroom Procedures:

1. Enter the classroom in an orderly manner, and proceed to your assigned seat. Make sure you have the required materials (binder, textbook, etc.). Tardiness will not be tolerated; the door to the classroom will be locked and closed when the tardy bell rings, as per school district policy.

2. Take out any assignment(s) due that day, and turn in at the designated place.

3. Check the board or overhead for that day’s bell-ringer activity, and begin working on it.

4. During class, please raise your hand to ask a question or if you need my help.

5. Students should use the restroom during the passing period between classes, or during the break, and will not be allowed to leave the classroom for this purpose. Exceptions will only be made in the case of an emergency or documented medical condition.

6. Check the board for any homework assignment. Write it down on calendar or agenda.

7. At the end of the class period, the teacher will dismiss the students, not the bell. Students should remain seated at their desks when the bell rings until I release them.

Classroom Rules:

You are now in High School. You will be expected to behave as the young ladies and gentlemen that you are.

Here are a few things to remember:

1. You are here to learn. Behavior that distracts from teaching and learning will not be tolerated

2. Remember the Golden Rule. Treat others the way you would want to be treated.

3. Take care of all school property (desks, technology equipment, furniture, etc).
