8th grade MAP Testing begins Friday this week!
Counselor’s Corner: As we gear up for our last month of school, students and staff are ready to tackle the MAP test starting next Tuesday, April 28. It is important that every effort be made for student attendance during the testing sessions. In order to help your child perform to the best of his/her ability, students should get at least 8-9 hours of sleep a night and eat a well-balanced breakfast.
SCIENCE: We will continue working on the energy unit, including sound and light and electricity. Students will be able to identify and describe various properties of sound, light and electricity. If you have questions or concerns please contact me. Mrs. Rhoad
8th Grade Glimpse Mr. Stickel U.S. History:
Students will be working on gaining a more in depth knowledge of the constitution specifically the Bill of Rights this will be done through notes, discussion, creating and working through scenarios and multimedia presentations. If you ever have any questions I can be reached by email at . I can also be reached by calling the middle school office during my conference period. My conference period on Gold Days is from 10:10-11:20 or 1:45-2:50 on Blue Days.
Communication Arts:- Mrs.Sellman and Mrs. Lettau:Reading/Writing: S.W.B.A.T:Identify the elements of poetry. Students will practice reading and writing pieces of poetry. A.R.CHANGE!The remaining4th quarter reading logs will be due: May 1, 15. Pre-Algebra: We will complete the unit on graphing linear equations next week. Students will take a quiz over direct variation and solving systems of equations by graphing on Monday (B1 and B3) and Tuesday (G5). The testing over graphing lines will be on Wednesday (B1 and B3) and Thursday (G5).
Algebra I:. We will complete the unit on factoring polynomials next week. Students will factor perfect square trinomials and choose a method for factoring polynomials.

8TH Grade CA/Reading – Mrs. Lettau - We are finally ready for the MAP test, which will start on Friday for the 8th grade students. We will continue our activities/games for MAP review. 6th/7th/8th Health and Physical Education:
In physical education class the students will be participating in a variety of activities that they have learned throughout the year. Anyone who needs to make up the mile will need to schedule a time to do so after school with Coach Sears.

8th Grade RISE- Students are finishing up their independent study projects. They are set to present either May 11th or May 13th. Extempore is next Saturday, May 2nd. The bus will load at 6:45 a.m. at Grandview Elementary and will depart at 7:00 a.m. Students must ride the bus to the competition. Permission slips are due Friday, April 24th. 8th Grade Computer Literacy-We will continue our keyboarding focus on the whole keyboard and practice to increase our net speed. Students will be finishing up their research project on countries of the world. This project required them to take the information that they had collected and present it in a PowerPoint. They will begin a new project of their choice this week. Their project must receive teacher approval before they begin.

Exploring Agriculture-Mr. Brock: This week we will continue bird house project construction. Students will utilize basic shop skills ranging from reading a measuring tape to safely operating various tools while completing this project. Please make sure your child wears closed toe shoes. Graphics I:The students in this design and create word clouds for test taking strategies.
Graphics II: The students in this class will continue designing and editing their HUSKER CAFÉ’ menus. Once these are completed they will begin advertisements for a HUSKER CAFÉ’
8th gr Art:The students in this class will complete their oil pastel project of florals. Once these are finished they will write artist statements for them.

Vocal students are preparing for the spring concert. The Middle School Spring Choir Concert will be held on Thursday, May 14 at 7:00 p.m. In the West Gym. Students will wear blue music shirts, black pants or skirts, and black shoes.
