Chemistry Honors credit Spring 2011
The deadline to sign up for honors credit is January 28.
In order to receive honors credit in chemistry for the spring semester 2011 students must do the following:
· Write 4 chemistry research papers. (double spaced, 12 point font, times new roman font). These papers must have no fewer than three outside, scholarly sources (not Wikipedia) and include a bibliography (not included in the 3-page minimum paper). The paper must utilize scientific vocabulary and demonstrate an understanding of the concept. Plagiarism in any form will result in immediate disqualification of honors credit. Papers will not be accepted after their due dates. NO LATE PAPERS!
· Independent research and study of chemistry topics covered in minimal detail, during class. Students will be required to show understanding in some of the following topics (not all topics will be assigned, I will tell you what topics and give practice problems based on these topics):
Chemical density Thermodynamics structure of atomic bonds bonding angles
Percent composition limiting reagents percent yields behavior of gases
Changes of states of matter Gas laws periodic trends polar bonds
Aqueous solutions Reaction rates Equilibrium Neutralization
Oxidation and reduction reactions Electro-chem Organic chem.
· Specific honors tests will be given to reflect the additional content.
· Some class assignments will have added parts required for honors credit, taken from the list above. Not all topics assigned will be covered in great detail during class. It is your responsibility to learn the material.
