PARENT APPRECIATION DAY, Wednesday, June 19th (date changed from June 12th)
Congratulations Jazz Band for another great performance under the "Peak" in front of the school while teachers waved and handed out treats to parents as they drop off their children from 8:15-8:50AM.
SUMMIT YEAR END CONCERT, 7:30PM, June 13th & 14th
Congratulations to all our Bands and Choir for two more fabulous concerts. "FAT Jazz" (Friends and Teachers Jazz Band) were also special our guest performers at Thursday evening's concert. Highlights include "Don't Stop Believing" by the Choir, "Do-Re-Me" by the Beginning Band, "EspanaCani" by the Intermediates, "Malaguena" by the Seniors, "Free Bird" by the Jazz Band, and "Respect" by FAT Jazz.
DISTRICT BAND DAY CELEBATION, Saturday, May 25, Leigh Square, Port Coquitlam
Congratulations to our Senior Band for a very impressive performance at this year's event! This free, public annual event is organized by the Coquitlam Music Teachers Association to promote Music Education in our District. Our Senior and Intermediate Bands have taken turns participating in this event, held at Rocky Point, Port Moody and Lafarge Lake, Coquitlam, in the past few years. Thank-you to everyone who came out to hear us and the other participating bands!
Kiwanis Fraser Valley International Music Festival, Thursday, May 23
Congratulations to our Intermediate Band for their very fine performance, earning them a "Silver" standing! They also received an excellent workshop from reknown adjudicators Clyde Mitchell and Wayne Jeffries, and heard two other outstanding secondary school concert bands at this very fine music festival at Kwantlen University in Langley.
Music Monday, May 6th
Congratulations to our Choir for their participation and performance of "Is Somebody Listening" and "Don't Stop Believing" in this national event with other District Middle Schools Choirs at Glen Pine Square by the Coquitlam City Hall on Monday, May 6th. They sang simultaneously with Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield from the International Space Station and choirs and music groupsaccross Canada on this special day in support of music education!
Sun Peaks Music Festival Trip, April 19-21
Our Senior Concert Band and Jazz Band students are had a fabulous experience and learned a great deal at this excellent festival which featured adjudicated performances, band clinics, instrument masterclass workshops, and excellent concerts by the outstanding University of Manitoba Wind Ensemble, Brass, Woodwind and Percussion Ensembles and Choirs. Our students also had a great time cooking breakfast in their rooms, playing games and swimming. Our bands also performed very well and behaved responsibly. Thank-you very much to Mr. Luniw and all our chaperones who helped make this trip such a success!
Beginning Band Day, Montgomery Middle School, April 17, 9:00-12:00
Congratulations to our Beginning Band, the largest in the district, for a great performance at this event! Congratulations also to our piece announcers and all our instrument representatives for a great effort in the long note, scale, and drum roll contests.
Spring Concert, April 10, 2013
Congratulations to all band and choir students for an excellent Spring Concert on April 10th! All groups performed very well for an impressed and appreciative audience. Some of the highlights include "Rings of Saturn" by the Beginning Band, "Wave the Flag" by the choir, "Ten Masters in Two Minutes" by the Intermediate Band, "Fly Me to the Moon" by the Jazz Band, "Bolero" by the Senior Band, and the Intermediate and Senior Bands playing Adel's "Rolling in the Deep" together as a finale. Thank-you to Ms. Ross, Ms. Seddon, Mr. Lynn for your help, and all the students who helped with set-up and take down.
District ADVANCED BAND DAY, Summit Middle School, Thurs., March 7
The Summit Middle School gymnasium was the scene for this year's annual "Advanced Band Day" featuring middle school Advanced Bands from across District 43 taking turns performing for each other. Congratulations to all participating bands, including Summit's Intermediate, Jazz, and Senior Concert Bands, for their excellent performances. Thank-you to guest clinicians Nina Falcos and Brent Mah from Tom Lee Music who gave informative feedback, Nina for leading everyone in exciting massed band clinics, Summit Administrators for their opening remarks, staff for their flexibility, and students who assisted with greetings, set-up/take down, and sound system, all helping to make it a very successful, smoothly run event!
CHRISTMAS CONCERT, Dec. 13 and 14, 2012
Congratulations to all our students for another excellent Christmas Concert for a very full gymnasium which featured the Summit Beginning, Intermediate and Senior Concert Bands, Jazz Band, newly formed Choir, and guest A Cappella Vocal Group from Pinetree Secondary performing a variety of seasonal favorites. All six groups performed very well for the very large and appreciative audiences. Thank-you the students and staff who helped with the decorations, sound system, program, set-up and take down, and to all the parents and students who helped to make it such a special event!
District Jr. HONOUR BAND and HONOUR MIDDLE CHOIR, Nov. 21
Congratulations to all of our students who participated in this year's District Jr. Honour Band and Choir! They worked hard, received expert instruction, learned a lot, and, along with the District Honour Elementary Choir, Secondary Choir and Senior Band, put on a fabulous concert for about 1000 people at Heritage Woods Secondary on November 21.
REMEMBRANCE DAY ASSEMBLY, Sr. Concert Band, Nov. 10
Congratulations to the Grade 8 Sr. Band for their role in the excellent Remembrance Day Assembly held in the Summit Gymnasium on November 10th. With their very fine Performances of "O Canada", "Danny the Brave Heart", "Juno Beach", and orchestrated version of "The Last Post", our Band members displayed exemplary behavior and looked smart in their uniforms with poppies.
Summer Learning 2012 - Band and Fine Arts
The first ever Summer Band and Fine Arts classes, which included many Summit students,took place as part of SD43 Summer Learning2012 this year. They were very successful and included a very impressive Beginning and Advanced Band Concert and Drama Performance at Scott Creek Middle on July 26. We look forward to having these classes run again next year!
