Job description: Full-time Assistant Preschool Teacher
Reports to: Director, Johnson County Learning Center
Mission Statement: The mission of Johnson County Center is to build better futures for children in Johnson County by promoting and providing a lifelong love of learning that encourages family involvement, in collaboration with schools and the community.
Expectations: We expect our Preschool Teachers to be educated, kind, loving, fun, professional and creative. Teachers should instill a love of learning in their students, and focuses on helping each individual student learn at his or her own pace. Teachers should be reliable and independent.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Assist teaching a class of twenty children ages 3-5 for the 2012-2013 school year.
- Establish and maintain effective, working relationships with children, and parents
- Assist in ensuring equipment and classrooms are clean, well maintained and safe at all times
- Assist in ensuring children are supervised by sight and sound at all times
• Assist in planning and preparing classroom activities
• Organize classroom as directed by Lead Teacher
• Attend required Staff Meetings
- Be familiar with program’s policies and procedures
• Keep certifications current (i.e., CPR/First Aid etc.)
• Prepare Needs List for supplies for relevant classroom
• Keep communication current with Lead Teacher and Director
• Assist in preparing for Family Events
Essential skills/abilities:
• 3 year+ experience working with young children (birth – 8 years)
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred
• Completion of two Early Childhood Education classes preferred
• Patience and flexibility; ability to relate to young children and adults
Time Requirement: Position follows the Edinburgh School calendar, Aug. 3 - May 31. Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 4:00 pm; plus mandatory training and meetings as needed.

- Be familiar with program’s policies and procedures and implement them at all times

• Assist in planning and preparing for Family Events
•Ensure children are supervised by sight and sound at all times
- Follow monthly calendar and circle time routine
- Follow classroom safety plan to provide safe and secure environment for children
- Observe children’s development and make note of progress to share with parents
Essential skills/abilities:
• 3 year+ experience working with young children (birth – 8 years)
• Bachelor’s Degree
- Teacher's license is preferred
• Completion of two Early Childhood Education classes preferred
• Patience and flexibility; ability to relate to young children and adults
• Lesson planning skills
