CREATIVE COMMUNICATIONS INTERNSHIP ROLE DESCRIPTION

Title: STOP THE TRAFFIK Creative Communications Intern

Team: STOP THE TRAFFIK UK

Location: 1 Kennington Road, London, SE1 7QP

Hours: 5 days a week

Application Due: By 9am on the 4th November 2016

Interviews: Week commencing 7th November 2016

Duration: 4 months starting from Monday 28th November 2016

Expenses: Return travel from home to the office (London, zones 1-3). All travel agreed and undertaken while carrying out internship duties

Working with: UK team based in the HQ office in central London

STOP THE TRAFFIK is a growing global movement of individuals, third sector, businesses and community groups campaigning to prevent human trafficking.

We work to prevent human trafficking through:

Raising Awareness: Equipping communities to spot human trafficking and respond effectively

Getting Organised: Acting on ideas and action that disrupt and stop human trafficking

Sharing Information: We have recently launched The STOP APP, a tool for community empowerment with which we hope to create the world’s largest database on human trafficking enabling intelligently-designed preventative measures. It is vital that we continue to develop an innovative marketing strategy and closely monitor the traction the app achieves

Thinking global (and acting local): Connecting local activity to the global problem and a global movement

Getting connected: An activist network, sharing stories, tactics and resources

Being disruptive: We work to disrupt and stop human trafficking

Partnerships: we are partnered with various organisations in the NGO and private sectors;

o We are partnered with Edelman and Leagas Delaney, two leading PR firms who you will have a chance to meet and collaborate with on our marketing campaigns

o We are currently working with a leading global social media platform who we are in ongoing dialogue with regards to our developing social media presence

o We have partnered with LexisNexis in the past in order to produce insightful reports for consumers surrounding the chocolate, tea and fashion industries;

o We have partnered with the UN to launch the GIFT Box in 2012, an ongoing project now that is being replicated by other NGOs across the world

o We were the FT’s seasonal appeal partner last year

o We are currently providing research / supply chain consultancy some one of the

UK’s largest retailers

o We have partnered with IBM who are supplying us with the crucial database infrastructure needed for our Centre for Intelligence-Led Prevention

o We have a global network of affiliates contributing to our ongoing campaigns

This role is suitable for individuals wishing to pursue a career in public relations, marketing, communications, social media and graphic design.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY AND SPECIFIC DUTIES:

1. Managing STOP THE TRAFFIK’s daily social media activity; spreading our message, reaching new audiences, joining in conversations and engaging people to be part of STOP THE TRAFFIK;

2. Writing content for public relation resources and STOP THE TRAFFIK’s owned channels, such as blogs, newsletters and donor communications;

3. Proactively designing innovative content such as infographics, videos and flyers;

4. Assisting with developing website content and resources;

5. Looking for new opportunities to expand our digital reach; keeping an eye on trends and new platforms that might be beneficial to STOP THE TRAFFIK;

6. Working alongside the STOP THE TRAFFIK communications team to develop the wider communications strategy involving researching, social media, data analytics, campaigns & fundraising.

7. Participate in and assist at STOP THE TRAFFIK events, including workshops and running stands / stalls.

8. To carry out any other duties as reasonably requested and to work alongside all members of staff, interns and volunteers.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

ESSENTIAL / DESIRABLE
KNOWLEDGE / An understanding of basic issues around human trafficking / Awareness of STOP THE TRAFFIK
and our approach
Knowledge and understanding of operations in the third sector
EXPERIENCE / Experience of using social
media either in your own
personal networks or previous work experience
Past experience of being
an activist or supporter for an issue / campaign or
organisation / Previous commercial use of social media
Writing for diverse audiences
Graphic design
Conducting research
Previous experience updating website content
SKILLS / Ability to use design software (InDesign) to
create and adapt
publications
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to a wide range of audiences
Excellent oral and written
English
Excellent organisation
Ability to use Microsoft
Office / Ability to use design software
(Photoshop, GIMP etc.) to create eye- catching images for social media and resources
OTHER ATTRIBUTES / Passion for human rights
Self-motivated, able to work unsupervised

Willing to learn, & try new things / Strategic and proactive attitude towards the development of social
media campaigns
