MEETING DATES
Monday 6 July – Friday 10 July 2009
INITIAL MEETING PLAN
The JTC 1/SC24 draft meeting plan is provided at Attachment 1 to this document.
Please note that this meeting plan contains details of the SC 24 Meetings only.
Working Group meetings will be posted as soon as they have been finalized.
MEETING LOCATION
The meetings are being held at the BSI offices that are located in Chiswick, West London. The full address is;
BSI Group Headquarters,
389 Chiswick High Road,
London W4 4AL
Although the BSI offices are located just over 6 miles/10 km from the centre of London, they are positioned on a bus route and directly over Gunnersbury underground station, so are easy to reach by public transport. For details on how to reach the BSI, see the section below on “GETTING AROUND IN LONDON” and the map at the following link:

ACCOMMODATION
The BSI has negotiated a special rate at a number of hotels in the area, details of which are given in Attachment 2. This attachment also includes a booking enquiry form and details of how the booking may be made by phone, fax or e-mail.
For delegates preferring to be near to the meeting place, the Moran hotel in Chiswick is recommended, as it is directly across the road from the BSI. It is a good quality hotel that has only recently been built, hence was not available when we had our last SC 24 Plenary at the BSI in 2002.
Alternative accommodation:

Coach and Horses Hotel,

Kew Green,

£110 for single room and breakfast

(The Coach and Horses is an old English ‘pub’ that has been upgraded to a hotel. It is located across the river from the BSI and is on a bus route to the BSI)

Premier Inn,

52 High Street, Brentford, TW8 0BB

£89 for single room

(Brentford is on the A315 about 2 miles west of the BSI and is on a bus route to the BSI)

- Both Kew Green and Brentford High Street are shown on the Streetmap given by the link above.

SOCIAL EVENT
An optional social event and dinner is being organized for the Wednesday evening. Details are presently not available, but it is hoped the cost will be less than £50 per head.
REGISTRATION
National Delegations and Liaison Officers to ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC24 should be
identified to the JTC 1/SC24 Secretary through their National or Liaison Standards bodies. National Bodies and Liaison Organizations must inform the SC24 Secretary of who will be representing them in their delegations at the Plenary meetings, who will be authorized to attend the Working Group meetings and who will be authorized to attend the HOD/C meetings (in accordance with ISO/IEC JTC 1 Directives, 5th Edition, Version 3.0, clause 2.6.1.2).
Registration Forms given in Attachment 3 are the means to formally notify the SC 24 Secretariat of who is authorized to attend the proceedings of ISO/IEC JTC 1 SC24 and its Working Groups.

ENTRY VISAS
Entry visas to the United Kingdom are required only for visitors from certain countries. If you think you need a visa or if you require a letter of invitation to the meeting, please contact Jean Stride ( and for further contact detailssee page 2 above).
GETTING AROUND IN LONDON
London is a crowded city, so regulations have been introduced to discourage motorists from taking their cars into the centre. A congestion charge of £8/day is applicable to the central area and car parking everywhere is both difficult to find and expensive. The recommended way to travel is by public transport or taxi. In this section, information is given about the public transport facilities in London and how to get to BSI from the airports.
Public Transport in London
The easiest and most cost effective way to use public transport in London is to purchase an Oyster Card. This can be done either on-line or at any tube station and does not require a photo ID. An oyster card is a pay-as-you-go card that is valid on buses, tube trains, overground trains and the Docklands Light Railway (DLR). It can be topped up using a credit card at a ticket machine that can be found at any station. To encourage the use of the Oyster Card, fares are less than half the price of paying by cash. For example, the standard single fare on the tube is £4 by cash and £1.60 by Oyster Card. Details of Visitors Oyster cards are available at;

Getting to the BSI from the London Airports
London is served by three major airports – Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted. The public transport options available from these airports are as follows;
To know the exact location of BSI, use the map;

Arriving at Heathrow
There are underground (tube) stations at all 5 Heathrow terminals. Use an Oyster card or purchase a standard single fare.
Take the Piccadilly Line (shown blue on the map) to Hammersmith. At Hammersmith, cross over the bridge to take a westbound District Line train (shown green) bound for Richmond. Alight at Gunnersbury, where BSIis directly above the station. The journey takes approximately 40 minutes.
Arriving at Gatwick
There is a main line rail station at Gatwick, but no underground station. Take a train into Victoria station on either a Gatwick Express (non-stop, but more expensive) or a Southern train.
At Victoria, go to the underground station and find the correct platform for westbound District Line (green) trains. Use an Oyster card or purchase a standard single fare. Take the train bound for Richmond and alight at Gunnersbury, where BSI is directly above the station.
Journey time is approximately 1 hour (30 mins. to Victoria + 30 mins. Victoria to Gunnersbury).
Arriving at Stansted
This airport is to the north east of London, hence is the furthest away from the BSI. To get to BSI, take the following trains;
Stansted Express to Seven Sisters (rail ticket)
Victoria Line (light blue) from Seven Sisters to Victoria (Oyster Card or standard single)
District Line Richmond train (green) from Victoria to Gunnersbury (no additional fare)
UK SPECIFICS
Weather
Weather in the UK is unpredictable and can change without warning. However, a long range forecast for London in July is provided as a guide;

Temperature:Min 14°C,Max 22°C
Humidity:71 (am), 59 (pm).
Wet days/month12

Electrical Appliances
The electric power supply is 220 volts AC, with a frequency of 50 hertz.
Power outlets use a plug design that is primarily used only in the UK, hence most visitors will need to purchase a plug converter at the airport.
The majority of battery chargers for mobile phones and laptops will accept a wide range of input voltages, hence a voltage converter will probably not be needed.
Currency
The unit of currency in the UK is the £ (UKP). However, cash machines (ATMs) will accept overseas bank cards and credit cards are accepted for most other currencies.
