A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE THE HILTON HEAD PREPARATORY SCHOOL “LADY DOLPHINS” BASKETBALL TEAM OF BEAUFORT COUNTY ON THE SOUTH CAROLINA STATE INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION CLASS AAA CHAMPIONSHIP, AND HONOR THE PLAYERS AND COACH ROBERT SULEK.
Whereas, the Hilton Head Preparatory School “Lady Dolphins” of Beaufort County capped their outstanding 20042005 basketball season by taking the South Carolina Independent School Athletic Association Class AAA state title with a 5040 win over the Cardinal Newman “ Lady Cardinals” in the finals of the tournament; and
Whereas, the hardfought victory was truly a team effort with both a strong offense and defense throughout the game; and
Whereas, the Lady Dolphins went into the fourth quarter down 3231, but was able to outscore the Lady Cardinals 198 in the final eight minutes to secure the victory; and
Whereas, the Lady Dolphins finished strong and showed incredible tenacity and heart in the last four minutes and twenty seconds of the game, holding the Lady Cardinals to only two points, while scoring nine themselves; and
Whereas, with this victory, the Hilton Head Preparatory basketball team was able to finish the season with an outstanding record; and
Whereas, this title was the Lady Dolphin’s third SCISAA Class AAA victory after seven times to the finals, and the first victory since 2001; and
Whereas, members of this stellar team include: Alexandra Fuller, Erica Petrus, Katie Butler, Catherine Callaway, Jenny Lindgren, Karla Compton, Kim Zwerner, Megan Donley, Kristina Compton, Courtney Aiken, and Abby Fennessey; and
Whereas, this outstanding finish for the Hilton Head basketball team signifies that Coach Sulek’s Lady Dolphins are truly a power in the SCISAA Class AAA basketball tournament; and
Whereas, the Lady Dolphins have brought great pride and recognition to their school and community, and the members of the General Assembly are pleased to have this opportunity to recognize them. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly congratulate the Hilton Head Preparatory School “Lady Dolphins” basketball team of Beaufort County on their 2005 Class AAA State championship, and honor the players and Coach Sulek on their impressive victory.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Athletic Director Kenny Conroy.
