Communications Working Group

Report for 2015-2016 and plans for 2016-2017

Communications remains a core process for Gerrards Cross Town Council (GXTC). We aim to reach residents and in and around GX with messages and information about many different issues, and inform a wider audience about events in Gerrards Cross.

We fully recognise the diverse demographics within GX, including a bias to a slightly older population. We fully recognise that every individual may have preferences about communication. Some will be computer users, and may use e-Mail or look at our Town Council web site. Some may use social media such as Facebook or Street Life. And some prefer printed matter, for example our ‘Voice’ newsletter or posters displayed around town, or local press. We continue to communicate using all sorts of different media. Having said that, we live in a world which is ‘going electronic’, so our longer term goal is to use electronic communication where possible. So please ‘Like’ us on Facebook, take a look at the GX Town Council web site, and share your e-Mail address with us so we can add you to our communications database.

‘Voice’ is our printed newsletter which is posted by hand to 3200 households in GX, and an additional 800 copies are placed in key locations around GX. We published in May and October 2015, and a bumper issue inFebruary 2016. Feedback about ‘Voice’ is useful, and if you think something needs including in ‘Voice’ then let us know. If you didn’t receive a copy please let the Town Council office know, and give your address details. Electronic copies of all back issues are available on our web site :

The Communications Working Group was re-formed in January 2016, and Council members on the team include Councillors Martin Baker, Mike Lawson, Norman Holmes, and Mike Berntson.

Coming up soon and over the next 12 months :

  • GXTC plan a re-vamp of our web site. Suggestions welcomed.
  • More emphasis on promoting events in GX - don’t forget the GX Fun Run on 22nd May, and see below for a listing of some events from mid-April onwards.
  • Did you know there are around 75,000 people living within the sector bounded by Amersham, Beaconsfield, Farnham Common, Stoke Poges, Denham, Chalfont Heights, Amersham – they potentially could come to events in Gerrards Cross, use our shops and businesses, or cinema or restaurants and cafes. GX is an important hub and a growing town.

We want to hear from you–of course communication is a two-way process – so we would love to hear from you.

Councillor Martin Baker– April 2016
