PowerPoint ASSIGNMENT

For this assignment, you are to create a four-slide presentation showing what product or service you are planning to provide for an imaginary business. Your business can be anything that you are interested in. You will design a PowerPoint presentation to inform a panel of potential investors about your business. The four slides should have a common theme to them, and must be free of spelling errors. The slides should convey what the product/service is or does, which market segment you plan to reach, and what unknown questions you have at this time (such as sources of funding). The information about your business should cover the first three slides. In the fourth slide we will consist of importing your chart from the Excel 1 assignment.

Ø  When you open PowerPoint, you are first prompted for what type of presentation you want to create (I usually choose to create a blank presentation). Then you will be prompted for how you want each slide to look. After that, you are free to create your slides.

Ø  Once you choose a particular format for your slides, you are sort of locked in to that format. Meaning there are certain areas where you can type things (usually denoted by a box that says something like ‘click here to enter text’). To type in a text area, just click anywhere in that area and start typing. You can also insert a textbox by selecting Insert on the menu bar, and selecting Text Box. Just click to place the text box where you want.

Ø  The toughest part might be creating the first slide. After that, all you need to do is to select the option that allows you to add another slide to your presentation and you can create your second and third slides.

Ø

Ø  Each slide must have at least one picture/graphic. To insert a graphic from clip art, select Insert from the menu bar, select picture, then select Clip Art. To select an image from your NT Account or floppy follow the previous instructions but select From File instead of Clip Art.

Ø  There are at least three ways to add additional slides to your presentation. One method is to click on the icon that means “New Slide”. Another method is to select Insert from the menu bar, and then select New Slide. A third method is to hit the control key and the letter M at the same time.

When you are finished, you should have a three-slide presentation about your business, service, or product that is free of errors.

Ø  This is a good point to save your work. Save this file as ‘present1’ on your diskette, or NT account. To save a file, go up to the menu bar and click on ‘File’, then ‘Save as’, and provide the filename (present1) and file location. Now continue on with the assignment.

Now you are going to import your chart from the Excel 1 assignment.

Ø  First you want to create a new slide. Select the contents to be blank.

Ø  Now switch over to your Excel 1 assignment.

Ø  Right click somewhere on the upper right portion of the graph and select “copy.” Minimize EXCEL and open PowerPoint.

Ø  Click the “edit” pull-down menu and select “paste special”. Select “Microsoft EXCEL Object.” Your graph will now be inserted into your PowerPoint document and may look similar to this:

Ø  This is a good point to save your work. Certain versions of PowerPoint aren’t as stable dealing with charts/graphs.

Ø  If you want to change the graph, you can do some reformatting here by clicking on the graph, and then right click to reveal the formatting menu. Remember, if you alter something and you don’t like the change, you can click the “undo arrow” and it will reverse your modifications (as long as you haven’t saved the file in between commands).

Ø  Also, you can always change the graph in EXCEL and recopy it in to your PowerPoint document. You can right click on the graph in PowerPoint and “cut” it to delete it, and then paste a new graph in its place (as described previously).

Ø  Now you are going to insert a Hyperlink to the Excel 1 spreadsheet from our graph. To do this left click once on the graph, select Insert form the menu bar, the select Hyperlink. Make sure “Existing File or Web Page” is selected, then you want to locate your excel assignment, and click OK.

Ø  Take what you have done so far and add a background to it. To do this, select Format from the menu bar, and then select Apply Design. You will be presented with many different background designs. Click once on a particular design; wait a few seconds, and then preview that design in the preview window. When you find a design you like select the Apply option and that background will be applied to all the slides in your presentation. Take a second to look at each of the slides to make sure the background is appropriate. If it is not, simply repeat the steps and choose another background.

Ø  To improve the flow of your presentation, select Slide Show from the menu bar, and then select Custom Animation. You will notice that clicking on the Timing, Effects, Chart Effects, or Play Settings tabs does not do anything. You must first click on “Title one”. Once you have clicked on, or highlighted “Title one” you can select which transition effects you want. Experiment with the different transitions and sounds, and add at least one object (text/Picture) transitions to each slide.

Ø  To change the transition between the slides, select Slide Show from the menu bar, and then select slide transition. Try the different transitions, you can also try modifying the speed, adding sound, and automatically timing the transition. Make sure to apply to all slides, or you can have a different transition per slide.

When you are finished you should have a four-slide presentation with a custom background, a graph of your expenses, at least four transitions, and a slide transition.

SHOW THIS TO YOUR LAB INSTRUCTOR BEFORE YOU LEAVE SO THAT YOU GET CREDIT FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT.
