SW PBS Coaches—Roles and Responsibilities
EXTERNAL COACH
JOB GOALS (Objectives):
Long Term:
- Works to ensure that PBIS is implemented with fidelity in their building
- Knows the theory, research and practices related to school wide behavioral support, including functional behavioral assessment and function based support planning. (or write as: expertise in content, techniques, rationales of SW-PBIS)
- Understands & promotes features of effective, culturally responsive classroom instruction & management
- Describes and promotes features, practices, & systems of the PBIS approach across the tiers
- Completion of all three tiers of training
- Knows basic principles of behavior
- Knows FBA’s and function based support planning
- Knows and facilitates use of protocols to guide difficult conversations.
- Presents to district about SW-PBIS
- Attends & participates in PBIS trainings and professional development sponsored by I-PBIS
Short Term:
- Communicates with SIP Team
- Recognizes, supports, and uses effective team meeting processes
- Ensures equal distribution of roles and responsibilities in school teams
- Assists in data collection/analysis and evaluations
- Assists with process for on-going problem solving
- Assists in communication with administrators, families, students, staff, community members
- Attends and participates in school based PBIS Team & ensures team meets regularly
- Attends & participates in monthly Coaches Meetings
- Works to bring district resources to building.
- Disaggregates data & leads teams in activities to examine hypothesis
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
- Works outside the schools & has access to a forum of people working across schools.
- Three to five year commitment
- Facilitates strategic problem-solving of PBIS team
- Facilitation (demonstrates experience capacity to problem solve, collaborate, communicate with adults)
- Promotes data based shared decision making
- Works closely with Administrators to initiate change.
- Good organizational Skills
- Computer skills
- Knowledgeable about district/school structures, operations, policies, etc.
- Skills in leadership, behavior management, instruction and curriculum have credibility with peers.
Coordinate the following:
- Ensure monthly PBIS school Team meetings take place
- Communication with faculty, families, community about PBIS activities.
- Data collection in building (i.e.: big five and academic data
- Celebrations
- Monitoring and reporting on SW-PBIS specific data (i.e., TIC, SET, SAS, BOQ, CRSAS, Data Audit Tool, PoL, School profile, school data form)
- Annual report shared with corporation (i.e., district Leadership team, State Coordinator, Board of Education)
- Networkingwith other internal and external coaches
