Preparation Course for 8th Grade Students

To prepare for the PSAT/Thomas Jefferson Admission Test, students at Mercer Middle School will have the opportunity to participate in an after school admissions test preparation program. The course has been designed to cover practice PSAT test items and the five skill areas assessed by the TJHSST admissions test. The test preparation class is only open to current 8th grade Mercer students.
The PSAT, a national assessment that measures student’s critical reading, mathematics, and writing skills, is the standardized test required for application to the Academy of Science. On PSAT test day, applicants will also be required to complete a writing component.
The TJHSST admissions test will consist of Ninety-five (95) test questions pertaining to sentence structure, logical reasoning, reading, mathematics. In addition, students will be expected to write responses to two (2) essay prompts.
Two PSAT preparation classes will be held after school, prior to the test date of October 15th, followed by FiveTJHSST admissions test preparation classes held prior to the December 3rd test date.All classes will be held on Wednesday afternoons, throughout the months of October and November.
Students are not required to participate in the entire program, but may select the topic(s) that best suits his/her needs. Each participant will be given a handbook/study guide, and practice materials that have been specifically prepared for the admissions test(s). No test preparation course practice materials will be available on-line.
Student Materials
Participants will expected to bring the following materials on the first day of class:
2” binder, 8 dividers, and a pencil
