Spelling: comparative endings er and est: sooner, soonest, hotter, hottest, busier, busiest, happier, happiest, smaller, smallest, fatter, fattest. Use er to compare 2 and est to compare 3 or more.
Reading: We will be reading Pearl and Wagner. The vocabulary words are: guess, pretty, science, shoe, village, watch, won. We will discuss author’s purpose (P.I.E.), antonyms/opposites, verbs, characters, character traits, setting, and plot. We will also be reviewing types of sentences and ending punctuation. Expect a quiz on Friday. We will be writing letters to Santa to reinforce learning the parts of a letter: Date, greeting, body, closing.
Religion: This week we’re discussing the season of Advent and the story of Zacheus.
Math: In chapter 7 we will learn: to find the value of a group of coins consisting of pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, and half dollars; we will also show amounts of money in more than one way and find the fewest number of coins to equal a given amount; we will compare an amount of money to the cost of an item; find the amount of change after making a purchase; apply regrouping in addition and subtraction of money; identify a dollar bill and dollar coin; count and find amounts of coins equal to a dollar; identify the place value of money amounts; and find the value of a group of bills and coins.
Social Living: We ended up finishing our Christmas gift to our parents last week so now we will be reading and enjoying one more tall tale, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. In this tall tale we will discuss characteristics of tall tales, cause/effect, and compound words. We will then move into our next unit on the westward movement and Native Americans.
