Title:Mothers qualify in childcare and help other parents into work
Seven residents from the Ocean Estate have successfully completed a childminding course run by the Limehouse Project and funded by Tower Hamlets Homes.
Many students who qualified are mothers themselves and have experienced the many barriers to employment including finding childcare.
Each student was encouraged to develop the skills she already had, as a parent to progress to the level of skill and knowledge needed when supporting the care and development of children in a home-based setting.
David Thompson, Tower Hamlets Homes Director of Neighbourhoods, presented the students with a Diploma Certificate in Home-based Childcare on International Women’s Day. (Thursday 7 March 2013).
“It’s a fantastic achievement and one we’re proud to be involved in, said David Thompson.
"Not only have we helped residents on the road to employment but those residents are now in a position to help others into employment by increasing the availability of childminding services in the local area.”
Each student has to register as a childminder with Ofsted and the Local Authority. As part of the course, the Limehouse Project will support all sevenstudents through the registration process.
Farida Yesmin, Director, Limehouse Project said, “It is crucial in thecurrent economic climate that residents are offered initiatives that allow them to develop their skills for employment. We would like to congratulate all the students on their achievement and thank Tower Hamlets Homes for helping us make it happen.”
Tower Hamlets Homes is working on more projects to improve the economic and financial position of residents.
