Job Summary
This is a senior and strategic role with overall responsibility for the finances of the organisation. You will be involved in all aspects of the financial management of the Society from day to day financial control to large finance projects. You will ensure that the Camden Society’s finances are managed in a manner that is compliant with the appropriate regulatory framework and that key financial data is provided to both the Board of Trustees and Managers to ensure that the Society’s financial resources are properly and effectively deployed and managed. You will lead a team in producing accurate and timely information and have the confidence and gravitas to present this to a wide audience. It will be vital that you can communicate effectively with a diverse group, empathise with their points of view and help them understand the financial implications of their decisions.
Fixed Term Contract- 12 months
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic leadership
1. Play an active part in the Society’s senior management team and contribute to developing its strategic capacity.
2. Oversee the day to day financial management of the Society and build capacity in the finance team and wider organisation.
3. Work with the Chief Executive and other members of the senior management team to model and advise on the financial impact of organisational strategy.
4. Maintain an understanding of current initiatives, which would have an impact on the Society and plan for and implement new initiatives.
5. Attend meetings of the Senior Management Team and Board of Trustees.
6. To meet regularly and work closely with the treasurer
Financial Control & Reporting
7. Ensure the Society has appropriate financial controls in place.
8. Manage the financial planning, budgeting and forecasting processes for the Society.
9. Provide detailed management accounts for the Board of Trustees and Chief Executive and report on the financial state of the Society according to an agreed schedule, reporting immediately any exceptional problems
10. To report to the Board, Finance, Resources and Risk Committee and SMT on progress against budget, risk and risk management, cash flow, and the financial implications of all proposals for change in the organisation.
11. Monitor and manage organisational cash flow.
12. To oversee the preparation of detailed monthly management accounts.
13. Produce the annual financial report and accounts and other statutory returns.
14. Oversee the preparation of regular management accounts for budget holders.
Income Generation
15. Oversee systems for ensuring the maximisation of income due to the Camden Society.
16. Increase the capacity of the Society to generate new streams of income and to enhance existing streams.
17. Work with the Chief Executive and SMT to identify opportunities for reducing the Camden society’s cost base and to ensure longer term financial viability of the organisation.
General Management
18. Develop and implement the Society’s financial policies, systems and procedures.
19. Ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the finance systems, make recommendations for improvements and implement the new systems.
20. Ensure the provision of relevant, accurate and timely information to budget holders and to ensure that all budget holders have the necessary tools to and systems to manage them effectively.
21. Set objectives for finance team and monitor progress and lead on any necessary remedial actions.
Other responsibilities
22. Manage the annual audit of the Society’s finances and facilitate any internal audit process
23. Monitor and maintain key supplier contracts and ensure the Society receives value for money.
24. Oversee the implementation of appropriate information management systems; and the full computerisation of the administration accounting and record system.
25. Ensure that all significant purchase contracts have been established within relevant procurement legislation and represent value for money
26. Research and complete funding bids to external bodies
