First Fajr International Women Chess Open Tournament

INVITATION:

The West-Azerbaijan province Chess Association on behalf of the I.R.of Iran Chess Federation is honored to invite all players from national federations to participate in the First Fajr International Women;s Open Chess Tournament which will be held in Orumieh, North-West of Iran, from February 2-10, 2008.

PARTICIPATION:

• Participation in the 16th Fajr International Chess Tournament is open to all women.

• Each National Chess Federation has right to nominate and send one Player as official invited player.

• The Organizing Committee will provide free participation, domestic Transfer (from Tehran to Orumieh and return) and full board accommodation for official invited players as well as WIM, or WGM title holders and +2000 rated chess players.

REGISTRATION FEE:

Registration is free for invited players. For other players, as follows with January 2008 FIDE Ratings of:

• 1900 to 1999 US$100

• 1800 to 1899 US$150

• -1799 and unrated US$200

Deadline for Registration is January 23, 2008.

TRAVEL and TRANSPORTATION:

• Orumieh is the capital of West Azerbaijan province in North-West of the I.R.of Iran.

• It has a domestic airport and connected to Tehran with 2-3 flights per day.

• The Organizing committee will provide free Transportation from Tehran International Airports (IKA or THR) to the playing venue (2 Feb. 2008) and vice versa (10 Feb. 2008) for official invited players.

• The Organizing committee can also book tickets for other players only if they register before 15 January 2008. The cost of two-way Tehran-Orumieh-Tehran ticket is US$80 and must be paid on arrival at the technical meeting.

HOTEL ACCOMMODATION:

1. All invited players shall be provided free full board accommodation on a twin sharing basis, from Feb 2-10, 2008.

2. Every player with rating 1900 to 1999 will pay US$20 per day for full board accommodation on a twin sharing basis.

3. Accommodation fee for other players is US$40 for each person per day.

TOURNAMENT SYSTEM:

1. The First Fajr International Women Chess Open Tournament will be played in 9 rounds using the Swiss System.

2. The time control shall be 90 minutes for the whole game with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from move 1.

3. The FIDE Laws of Chess shall apply. The tournament will be FIDE rated.

4. The Swiss Manager program shall be used for pairings.

PRIZES:

Six Thousand U.S. Dollars (US$6,000) in cash prizes shall be awarded:

4th place US$ 700

5th place US$ 600

6th place US$ 500

7th place US$ 300

8th – 10th places US$ 200

Total US$ 6000

Cash prizes shall be shared equally among tied players.

INVITATIONS FOR VISAS:

For those who need visas, the Organizing Committee shall issue invitations for them to apply at the I.R.of Iran consulate in their countries.

REGISTRATION FORM:

All participating players are kindly requested to fill in the attached registration form, which should include passport copy, passport particulars of participants, and return the same to the Organizing Committee not later than January 23, 2008 to the I.R.of Iran Chess Federation.
