Srta. Prather’s Classroom Procedures
Supplies: 3 ring binder (large), 5 dividers, paper, pencil (You may donate: tissues, paper towels, hand sanitizer or dry erase markers.)
- Beginning of Class
- There is no food or drink allowed in class (with the exception of clear, plain water in a clear plastic bottle), please put it in the trash.
- Enter the classroom and walk quietly to your seat.
- Sharpen pencils and throw trash away before the tardy bell rings.
- Be in your assigned seat when the tardy bell rings. Ms. Kramer will have her door closed and locked when the tardy bell rings and you need to be in my room and in your seat.
- Take out appropriate materials. Make sure you bring all your materials to class because you will not be allowed to go to your locker in order to retrieve them.
- Do the bell-ringer from the handout you receive each Monday.
- When you are absent
- When I pass back papers for the day, any make up worksheets will be in the stack. Check to be sure you did not miss notes or bookwork. (You must make up all assignments even if the absence is excused or you were on a field trip.)
- During a break in the lesson or at the end of class, schedule a day after school with the teacher to make up a quiz or test after school. It is the responsibility of the student to make up his/her work after school. The student will not be able to make up a quiz/test during classtime. Once you start taking a make up test/quiz you may not hand it back and ask for more study time. You should only show up to take it if you are ready. I’ll work with you to find time. You have approximately one week to schedule a make up.
- According to school policy, the student has only one day to make up work for each day you miss. For example, if the student misses two days of school, the student has two days to make up the work. If the student does not make up the work at the appropriate time, he/she will receive a zero for the assignment, quiz or test. It does not matter if he/she has excused absences. There is a time limit for accepting make up work. Field trips are included under this policy. If the time limit poses a problem, then talk to me and let me know.
- The teacher will always give advanced notice when students will be taking their quizzes or tests. For example: if the teacher tells the class that they will be taking a quiz five days from now, on a Wednesday and a student is absent on the Tuesday before the quiz, when the student returns on Wednesday, he/she will be expected to take the quiz/test. We never cover new information the day before a quiz/test and students should be studying nightly.
3. Assignments
- On the top of the page of your assignments write clearly your Spanish name and English surname.
- The majority of the assignments will be given and gone over during class time.
- All students will be expected to work on classwork that the teacher assigns in class.
- Do your own work! The teacher will go over the assignments in class. If the teacher sees that a student is copying his/her assignment from another student, both students will get a zero. Do not allow your neighbor to copy your answers. It is not worth it.
- If you do not know an answer, use your book and/or notes to look for the answer. Do not rely on another student and the teacher will not play talking dictionary.
- I walk around while you work to help you, but look it up first then check with me.
- Make sure you listen well and spell your words correctly. I will count off for missed accent marks.
- I take work one day late for a late grade. If you forget to hand in your assignments or you forget to make up work that you missed due to absences, you will not be allowed to hand it in or make it up at the end of grading term. For example, if a student checks his/her grade on-line at the end of the nine weeks and sees that they have zeros on three assignments, he/she will not be able to make them up. It does not matter if your absences were excused. Make sure you make up all your work that you missed due to absences in a timely fashion.
- Make sure you hand in all assignments when the teacher asks for them in class. Do not ask the teacher “Did you collect these assignments?” The answer will be “Yes I did and yours is now late.” I walk up and down the aisle collecting the work. It should be obvious that work is being collected.
4.Taking a quiz, a test or a proficiency
- All quizzes and tests are based on all material covered in class. Make sure you listen because the teacher always explains to the class what will be on the quiz or test everyday leading up to the day of the quiz or test.
- If a student talks after he/she has been given a quiz/test, he/she will receive a zero. It does not matter what the conversation is about.
- If you are caught cheating on your quiz or test you will receive a zero.
- If you have your cell phone on your desk or in your lap during a quiz and/or test, you will receive a zero. Put all electronic devices in your back pack or purse and make sure they are turned off. In a quiet testing room, the buzzing of most vibrate settings is annoying.
- While others are finishing their quiz or test you may: Sit quietly; Read a magazine, a book, the newspaper, etc.; Work on another assignment for another class; Put your head down
- The teacher will keep all quizzes and tests. Graded tests will be reviewed with the class so that students have an opportunity to see them and ask questions. After that, if the student wants to view his/her quiz/test, he/she must come after school to review it.
5. Asking to leave the room/ use the restroom
- If you need to use the restroom please ask the teacher when there is a break in the lesson. Please do not ask while you are taking notes and/or if the teacher is explaining a concept at the board.
- Students will only be allowed four hall passes each nine weeks.
- Ask in Spanish, “¿Puedoir al baño, por favor?” and I will decide if it is a good time for you to go. I will then sign one of your preprinted hall passes for the current nine weeks. Unused passes are NOT to be turned in for bonus and you may NOT use another student’s hall pass.
- You must use one of YOUR hall passes any time you request to leave the room for any reason.
6. Miscellaneous
- Gum, food, or drink will not be allowed in class! Keep them in your backpack/purse. Do not take them out during class or they will be taken away. Students may have clear, plain, bottled water in class.
- Electronic devices will not be allowed in class. If the student has his/her cell phone out for any reason, it will be taken away. Checking the time or having it just laying on the desk counts as having the phone out and are grounds for getting the phone confiscated. I have a clock in the room.
- Students are assigned a seat in class and are expected to always be in that seat unless directed to do otherwise by the teacher. If you have a problem with your seat, write a note with a polite explanation to the teacher and I will consider your request and decide if/where would be a more appropriate seat.
- You are not to leave your seat during class time. If you need to sharpen a pencil, throw an item in the trash, or use a tissue, please do so during independent work time and not during direct instruction.
- Do not get up from your seats and line up at the door at the end of the period. Stay in your seats until the teacher says, “Adiós”. I will call you back to your seats if you don’t all wait and will write you up if you go on out without waiting for my dismissal.
- If a student wants to know what his/her grade is in Spanish class, he/she may come after school and ask the teacher what his/her grade is. Remember you may receive your code from the guidance office to look up your grade on-line.
- When the teacher asks a student to sit in a certain seat or makes any other reasonable request in the classroom, the student needs to do what the teacher requests without talking back! The teacher always acts in the best interest of students’ education. Even if you think someone else should get called down too, go ahead and comply. Once I have you settled I can move on to another student. If you feel you are innocent go ahead and comply. Chances are if you comply you aren’t going to get in serious trouble. You can politely ask me about things after class. I am much more sympathetic to your plight after class than in the middle of instruction.
