South Carolina Gov.-elect Nikki Haley has chosen former U.S. ambassador David Wilkins to run her transition team.

Wilkins is a former South Carolina House Speaker and was President Bush's appointee as the U.S. ambassador to Canada.

Gov.-elect Nikki Haley announced former Ambassador and S.C. House Speaker David Wilkins will lead her transition efforts she prepares to take office in January.

Wilkins will be tasked with helping Haley, a Republican, identify cabinet candidates and other staffer for key state government positions. Wilkins said surrounding Haley with the best possible team will help her achieve her campaign promise of a more accountable government focused on job creation.

“I believe in Nikki Haley,” Wilkins said. “I believe she is the right person at the right time for our state.
