K-2 PE LESSONS
Week One
EQUIPMENT: Small basketballs—Both Days. Second day: Cones or cups. .
OBJECTIVE: Students will demo understanding of class expectations regarding behavior and
organization during entry, exit, and participation in PE classroom.
Students will demo basic locomotor, nonlocomotor and manipulative skills.
SET:How to line up prior to entry and exit of the class. Hands to yourself!!! Quiet!
Consequences of misbehavior----time out on stepsduring next game time.
NEVER touch the equipment until I tell you to!!!!
Today we are going to learn how important it is to listen to the PE teacher
and move quickly so we can have as much fun as possible in this class.
INITIAL ACTIVITY:
Have students walk around with wings like a bird making bird sounds.
On the Whistle—FREEZE and turn toward the teacher for eye contact.
QUIET at the whistle so you can hear the next instruction.
Have students each grab a ball and start bouncing it to themselves. On the
whistle, grab the ball and hold it still, turn toward the teacher for eye contact
and FREEZE. CONSEQUENCES—Steps during game time.
Hold the balls--Listening circle at mid court----use homerun signal----sit cross
legged. Tell students to run over and put the balls up. Then return to listening circle.
Listening line—sideline of court—hand signal. Toes on the line.
Run and touch the wall with your elbow and then return to listening line.
NO WHISTLE---Teacher yells FREEZE!!!!!! Have them shake hands.—FREEZE!
Hand signal for QUIET!!!! If office calls on the Intercom—FREEZE and QUIET.
Listening circle---Partner up with another student—back to back—stand on one leg.
Find a different partner---foot to foot---and get in the crab position.
Form a group of three and sit cross-legged.
FITNESS
ACTIVITY Listening Circle—jog around the court and touch each wall.
Then return to the listening line. Run and get a ball.
Run a lap and touch the ball to each wall without dropping it
then return to the listening circle and find a partner and sit
cross-legged next to your partner.
One of your partners take both balls back to the rack. Listening line.
Put your knees on the line—run across the court and touch the other sideline
with both feet and jump up and down on it five times then go back to the listening line.
MOVEMENT
ACTIVITY Listening circle---How to find your own home. Can you move your feet, arms, elbows
without touching anyone. LONG SIT. Can you get your feet higher thanyour head?
Get up and move around the court without touching anyone this is called general space.
FREEZE—return home and long sit facing me.
Hop on your left leg in general space without touching anyone---Right leg
Jump around on both feet in general space---Freeze—bear crawl back to
home.
Find a partner—find a home. Now lock arms and move about general space
without touching anyone.
PLAY
GYMNASTICS (Second day)
Listening circle---find a home---walk like a dog. Move left, right, forward and back
Your dog is missing a leg---so walk on three legs.
Listening line—try to crab walk across the court.
GAMES SKILLS
Grab a ball from the rack and find your home.
Everyone grab a ball, 2 hands hold it over head, down low, far away, near you, behind you.
Now do it with one hand. Left-Right—over/under.
Put the ball on the floor and make a bridge over the ball. Can you make a bridge and hold
the ball at the same time?
Can you get in a crab position and hold the ball on your stomach?
Sit cross-legged holding your ball, can you get up without using your hands?
Stand, kneel, sit-lie down-stand again.
Find a partner---put one ball on the rack and keep one. See how many ways you can hold
the ball without using your hands or arms. Can you move around in that position??
SPECIAL GAME (Most likely second day)
Number students off 1, 2, 3, 4.
Four lines-race zig-zag around cones carrying the ball various ways.
Under your arm—in both hands, on top of your head, behind your back,
between your legs, etc.
Run with a partner holding the ball together, etc.
If still time, four lines pass the ball down the line relays. Over/under, etc.
